Providers are using Health IT and EHRs

More and more eligible providers and hospitals are using Health IT than ever before. HeatlhIT.gov has posted a new infographic that shows some detail of that usage - and how many are getting help from their regional extension centers. The information in the new infographic comes from a recent CMS-ONC fact sheet.

eCQM Library: updates, timeline  

In the final rule for Stage 2 of Meaningful Use (MU), CMS outlined the timeline for reviewing and publishing updates to the Clinical Quality Measures (CQMs) specifications used in the EHR Incentive Program.  CMS determined that the specifications should be updated more frequently than the rulemaking cycle for the EHR Incentive Program in order to ensure that specifications maintain alignment with current clinical guidelines and ensure that the CQM remains relevant and actionable within the clinical care setting. Mandated Sequestration Payment Reductions Beginning for Medicare EHR Incentive Program 

Incentive payments made through the Medicare Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive Program are subject to the mandatory reductions in federal spending known as sequestration, required by the Budget Control Act of 2011. Read the complete story

ONC drives state HIE adoption

April was important for health information exchange, the biggest news being the awarding of close to $500,000 by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology to DirectTrust and the EHR/HIE InteroperabilityWorkgroup in support of advancing HIE governance. The ONC programs recognizes state grantees that have achieved key milestones in HIE, from electronic prescribing (e-prescribing, eRx) to query-based exchange. The fourth round of recognition provides an updated look at ONC-funded HIE efforts since December 2012, when the third round took place. Read the complete story
