This program is designed to accelerate physician competencies with Health IT through online coursework. This course features an accelerated learning structure to enable rapid implementation of knowledge and insights. The Illinois Health Information Technology Regional Extension Center (IL-HITREC) will underwrite $500 of the $1,500 cost for this course.
Information Systems and EHR Bootcamp.
This coursework will provide significant clinical and corporate insight into the value of adopting new information technology. Additionally participants will acquire the knowledge base to act comfortably as a liaison between clinical and IT services during implementation projects to ensure practice concerns are addressed and IT projects remain on track.

- Explain the functional requirements and expectations for an EHR, including government regulations.
- Wk. 2 June 14
- Explain the role of data standards and their relation to EHR data collection.
- Wk. 3 June 21
- Describe the broad scope of HIPAA and the challenges created by electronic systems for privacy and security in healthcare.
- Wk. 4 June 28
- Identify the key roles played by healthcare professionals with regard to work groups, consultants and vendors in information management and system selection.
- Wk. 5 July 5
- Identify alternative measures for evaluating and making informed decisions about institutional investments in patient care automation systems.

- Apply the fundamentals of Information Systems planning and project management.

This curriculum reflects the content of a graduate program in health informatics. For self-assessment purposes, points will accrue for activities throughout the Bootcamp. Should attendees later decide to advance their education by applying for the MS in Health Informatics at UIC, the Bootcamp experience will transfer as a three-credit hour elective course ONLY IF the student has accrued a minimum of 90% of the total course points. Acceptance to the IL-HITREC Bootcamp does not guarantee acceptance to the MS in Health Informatics at UIC. The expected time commitment is 15-20 hours each week.
