FAQs on Stage 2 MU Transitions of Care Measure

CMS and ONC have jointly released two new FAQs that help explain requirements for the transitions of care measure for Stage 2 meaningful use. The measure's objective is: The eligible professional (EP), eligible hospital, or critical access hospital (CAH) who transitions their patient to another setting of care or provider of care or refers their patient to another provider of care should provide summary care record for each transition of care or referral. EHRs help practices survive Hurricane Sandy

A compelling case for Electronic Health Records is featured on New York eHealth Collaborative's website blog in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy's devastation on the East Coast. The blog states that "while the Statewide Health Information Network is not yet connected to every hospital in the area, those already connected reaped the benefit. As Modern Healthcare wrote, 'New York's statewide health information exchange ran without a flicker, fulfilling the promise of health information technology brought into focus by Hurricane Katrina.'" New study links higher care quality to EHRs

Having trouble making up your mind about EHRs? In a new study published by the Journal of General Internal Medicine (JGIM), providers' use of EHRs was shown to lead to significantly higher care quality scores for certain health conditions compared to scores from providers using paper records. The study looked at the association between EHRs and ambulatory quality in a community-based setting. Read the findings

CASE STUDY--By creating and sharing its own EHR/Practice management software, the Kenneth Young Center is developing a network of associated agencies that share complementary services in support of care coordination and integrated care. Based in Elk Grove Village, IL, Kenneth Young Center (KYC) is a community-based behavioral health practice. Gongmin Mou, KYC's information systems manager, has created management software designed to be used by behavioral health services and others involved in providing community based support services. CMS releases corrections for Stage 2 MU

CMS published a 10-page document in the Federal Register on Oct. 23, which provides some minor corrections to the Stage 2 Meaningful Use Final Rule for the EHR Incentive Programs. The Stage 2 Final Rule was originally published on Sept. 4, 2012, and provides new criteria that eligible professionals, eligible hospitals, and critical access hospitals must meet to successfully participate in the EHR Incentive Programs. CMS Posts 2014 Clinical Quality Measures
Beginning in 2014, the reporting of clinical quality measures (CQMs) will change for all providers. Electronic Health Records (EHR) technology that has been certified to the 2014 standards and capabilities will contain new CQM criteria, and eligible professionals (EPs), eligible hospitals, and critical access hospitals (CAHs) will report using the new 2014 criteria regardless of whether they are participating in Stage 1 or Stage 2 of the Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs. Improving your patients' understanding of how the use of Electronic Health Records will enhance their care, is an important key in the health information technology movement. On HealthIT.gov, you can find a number of videos that show how Health IT allows patients, families and doctors to have access to health information, a key step to improving patient care. I-CARE  registration documents updated

 

The Illinois Department of Public Health has updated its documents related to I-CARE registration for the Immunization Registry. During Phase I of Meaningful Use (MU) attestation, all Illinois Eligible Professionals (EPs) are required to satisfy one of two Public Health measures to collect CMS incentives: Immunization Registries Data Submission or Syndromic Surveillance Data Submission.
