Water testing update
Staff has been working over the summer to address the lead in water concerns revealed when water sources across the district were tested to identify any sources with a lead reading that exceeded 15 parts per billion (ppb), the acceptable threshold. While there is no requirement to test, and most testing is only done on potable water sources, all water sources where human contact might be made, not just the potable ones, were tested.
Most of the elevated readings were caused by water fixtures, i.e., faucets and "bubblers" (water fountain faucets). The replacement of all fixtures that tested above the threshold at all four elementary schools is complete. We are waiting for parts (faucets and bubblers) for Lawrence Intermediate, Middle, and High Schools and hope to have the fixtures installed in the next couple of weeks. The next step will be to retest water from the fixtures in locations that originally tested over 15 ppb.
Please contact Tom Eldridge, business administrator, with questions about the testing and/or remediation plan.
