National History Day qualifiers experience government in action
As part of their attendance at National History Day, a week-long competition held at the University of Maryland in late June, LTPS national qualifiers Anusha Aggarwal, Cassidy Stoneback (Senior Division: exhibit); Disha Bharj, Riddhi Bharj (Junior Division: exhibit); Hope Perry, Grace Neuger and Saloni Sharma (Junior Division: performance) took a day trip to Washington DC, where they had a formal appointment scheduled to meet with NJ Senator Cory Booker.

After chatting with his aides for an hour, the students learned Mr. Booker was unable to meet with them, as he was directly involved with the Senate filibuster regarding gun control that was taking place at the Capitol during their tour of the building that day. They were, however, able to snap a photo outside the senator's office as a souvenir of their historic trip!
