Water testing update
When we first began water testing to determine lead levels within our schools and began receiving results, we posted a Water Testing FAQ document on our website. We continually update the FAQ document as we receive additional results for each school. This website posting is in addition to notifications sent to staff and parents of respective schools.

Earlier this week, we received water testing results for Lawrence Intermediate School. Some tested locations within the school tested positive for above acceptable levels of lead.

We are retesting all areas in all schools that indicate positive results. One test is done before staff and students arrive in the building and when water within a fixture is first turned on for the day. Another test...a flow test...is done in the same areas after water has flowed for 30 seconds.

A large percentage of flow tests done in each building thus far have come back with lead levels within the acceptable range. This leads us to believe the faucets/fixtures in many cases are the cause of the elevated lead levels at those sites. Thus, we are in the process of replacing the involved fixtures.

Please continue to regularly check the FAQ document on the website for new information. If you have questions, please contact Tom Eldridge, business administrator, at (609) 671-5420.

LHS students inducted into National Honor Society
On April 28, forty-five Lawrence high School (LHS) juniors were inducted into the Lawrence High School Chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS).

Membership in NHS is one of the highest honors that can be awarded to a high school student, who must demonstrate superior qualities such as exemplary scholarship (3.75 GPA or above), leadership, service, and character. NHS recognizes "the total student," one who excels in all of these areas.

Dr. Chris Woolley, former Lawrence Township Public Schools principal and district administrator, spoke about what it means to live up to these qualities on a daily basis in contemporary society, and current NHS officers helped pass the torch onto their peers. The LHS chapter of the National Honor Society is advised by Ann Hertzog and Camille Mallon.

Cooler times are in LHS future
You may have noticed that some events initially scheduled to be held in Lawrence High School (LHS) recently were moved to alternate locations. This is because air conditioning is being installed in the LHS auditorium.

In the wee hours of a recent Saturday, a crane lifted the HVAC unit to the LHS roof. The project is due to be complete by mid-June.

We apologize for any inconvenience the installation's timing may have caused and hope future comfort will offset the disruption.
