LMS goes to Washington
On April 15 at 5:15 a.m., 44 students and teachers from Lawrence Middle School (LMS) boarded a coach bus to the USA Science & Engineering Festival in Washington, D.C., courtesy of a generous grant from the Lawrence Township Education Foundation (LTEF). With Jupiter and Mars overhead, they left LMS in the dark and arrived in bright, sunny D.C. after 9 a.m. They spent the day at the Convention Center visiting over 300 exhibits related to science and engineering. They also had time to snap a photo at the White House. View a slideshow of the trip and read some reactions the students had to their experience.
LMS teachers who collaborated on the LTEF grant are: enrichment teacher Priscilla Taylor, and science teachers Tracy Bozarth, Elizabeth Garcia, Veen Juroshek, and Nicole Revere.

It's official! LTPS received 2016 Best Communities for Music Education designation
In early April we reported that Lawrence Township Public Schools (LTPS) once again received notification it was honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from the NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education. LTPS joins 476 districts across the country in receiving the prestigious award in 2016.
We received the "2016" stickers to add to the banners hanging in each of our schools celebrating this special honor. The Lawrence Township Education Foundation generously supplied the banners. This is the 8th time, and the 4th consecutive year, that LTPS has earned this designation: 2004, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016.

LIS students perform with CJMEA Honors Orchestra and Band
Selected students from the Lawrence Intermediate School (LIS) Orchestra and Band along with their director, Allison Kershner, recently participated in the Central Jersey Music Educators Association (CJMEA) one-day Honors Orchestra Festival at East Brunswick High School and the CJMEA one-day Honors Band Festival at Carl Sandburg Middle School in Old Bridge, NJ.
Mrs. Kershner nominated students based on their performances in the LIS Orchestra or Band and CJMEA selected festival participants from the nominees. Once selected, students were placed into one of three performing groups - the Red, White or Blue group. Students received their music a few weeks before each festival so they had time to practice. On festival days, students rehearsed with other students from Central New Jersey schools and performed in concerts together at the end of the day.

and Ethan Crutchley! This is William's fourth consecutive year of being selected to the NJ ODP '99 team, Christian's second on the NJ ODP '00 team, and Ethan's first on the NJ ODP '00 team. The boys play for the LHS varsity soccer team and train with Lawrence Hamnett Soccer.

Congratulations also go to Luke Bidle and Alex Hatfield, 8th graders at Lawrence Middle School who made the NJ ODP '02 team!
Since 1977, the US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program has helped identify potential national team youth players through an organized series of trials which began at the district or local level, then progress through the state, region and finally the national level. The program also serves as a means of development as the players identified are brought together for training and prepared for interstate, interregional and international competitions.

United in One Nest
The LHS Cardinals Boys and Girls Track teams presented the Robbinsville Ravens with a banner to support and encourage them in the midst of the recent tragedy, the passing of Robbinsville superintendent Dr. Steven Mayer.
The teams designed the banner and had their classmates sign it during lunch periods earlier this week. They then presented the banner to the Robbinsville track team before the meet on April 26. "Very impressive and much appreciated," were some of the words that the Robbinsville athletes and coaches used to describe the Cardinals' gesture of solidarity.

SHH upcoming fundraisers
The LHS chapter of Students Helping Honduras (SHH) works to raise awareness and money to build schools in Honduras; students also help to build these schools during summer and winter breaks. This year, the LHS club's goal is to raise $25,000 to fund a complete school in northern Honduras. They are currently at almost $15,000. Once the school is built, it will be painted red and white in honor of Lawrence High School, and will feature a plaque naming LHS school and many of our students.
To help reach their goal, SHH has a number of fundraisers coming up:
- May 1 - Lawrenceville Main Street Jubilee - Raffle baskets with prizes, gift cards, etc.
- May 13 - Corks and Canvas event - SHH will receive $15 profit for each attendee. Sign up here.
- June 11 - Mini Golf and Driving Range fundraiser at Pennington Golf Center - more info to come.
If you would like to support SHH but are unable to attend the fundraisers, please consider making an online donation here.
