The workshop for parents of children with special needs that was referenced in the February 11 QuickNews is for parents of preschool children only. The original notice is below. We apologize for the misinformation.

The next installment in a series of workshops provided for parents of students with special needs is A Parent Support Group, scheduled for Wednesday, February 24 at 9:45 a.m. at Lawrenceville Elementary School (LES). 
 
Presenter Michelle Kotch, MA, Ed.S., LPC will discuss ways you can take care of yourself while taking care of a child with special needs. RSVPs are required - call LES main office at (609) 671-5571 before February 16.
Community Conversation postponed
The Community Conversation originally scheduled for April 26 has been postponed. Stay tuned. We'll let you know when a new date...possibly in the fall...is confirmed.

NJEA Educational Support Professional of the Year Award
LTPS custodian Alan Wilson recently received the 2016 Mercer County Educational Support Professional (ESP) of the Year award from the New Jersey Education Association (NJEA). 

The ESP of the Year award is presented to an NJEA member whose activities best reflect the contributions of educational support professionals to public education. 

Alan was recognized during an awards dinner at the 42nd Annual NJEA ESP Conference.
Student-Leaders-Athletes attend leadership workshop
Groups of Lawrence High School student-athletes and student-leaders of other extracurricular activities were selected by their coaches/advisors to attend one of two sessions of the Lee Rubin Leadership Program workshop on February 18 at LHS. The workshop was funded through a grant from the Lawrence Township Education Foundation (LTEF).

Good news from the LHS Art Department - teachers' artwork on exhibit
Mercer County Community College (MCCC) will host the work of Cheryl Eng and Sean Carney, LHS art teachers, in the 2016 Mercer County Artists Exhibition. The exhibition runs February 22 - March 24 with an opening reception and awards ceremony the evening of February 24.

Artworks of Trenton also will host the art of Sean Carney in his exhibition "It's All Wood," beginning with an opening reception on March 5 and running through April 2. Visit the Artworks website for more details and directions.

Do we have spirit...yes, we do!
The LHS varsity cheerleaders recently competed at the Cheer Limited Championships at Sun Bank Arena and won 1st Place in the Medium Division! Various teams throughout the tri-state area competed at the event.
 
The Slackwood Elementary School cheerleaders did an amazing half-time performance with the LHS varsity cheerleaders during the Girls' basketball game on February 12 against Robbinsville HS. Adrienne Landolfi is the varsity coach.
Wrestling news
Chris Lynne, LHS varsity wrestling coach, received the Coaching Excellence Award at the recent Mercer County Wrestling tournament and senior wrestler Edwin Gonzalez came in 4th place in his weight class.

The LHS Wrestling Team held its First Annual Alumni Recognition Night on January 12 as the Cardinals took on the Rams of Hightstown. Over 25 wrestlers from 5 decades attended the match and reception afterwards.
 
The wrestling team is still looking for alumni to submit their email address to Coach Verga (jverga@ltps.org) for future events.

MCSA hosts Student Day of Dialogue Conference
The Mercer County Superintendents Association (MCSA) will host a "Day of Dialogue Conference" for high school students from all county districts on Friday, February 19, at Rider University. Students and staff from Lawrence High will attend the conference that will bring students together to participate in an educational experience that promotes conversation, awareness and action around issues of race, gender and class. Learn more in this press release from MCSA.
USAF Rhythm in Blue Jazz Ensemble set to perform free, public concert at LHS
Save the date! The United States Air Force (USAF) Rhythm in Blue jazz ensemble will perform a free concert at Lawrence High School (LHS) on March 16 at 7PM.

Although free, tickets are required for concert admission. Register here for free tickets.
                                  
The band incorporates a wide repertoire of jazz and fusion, from big band swing to cutting-edge contemporary music. Their fabulous vocalist radiates sounds of the great jazz divas and inspires with patriotic classics.

School nurses selected for Health Leadership Program
Cindy Agoston, Cori Levesque and Lucille Winslow, nurses at LMS and LHS, along with Dr. Erin Servillo, Director of Student Services, have been selected to attend the July 2016 Johnson and Johnson School Health Leadership Program.
 
This nationally recognized, extremely competitive fellowship empowers teams of school nurses and their school partners with skills and knowledge to become public health leaders. The program includes an intensive six-day residential Leadership Training Institute, online learning, and the development of community -based health promotion initiatives.
