LHS Science Olympiad students medal at Regionals
Congratulations to the Lawrence High School (LHS) Science Olympiad Team for their successful participation in this year's NJ Science Olympiad Regionals Tournament, hosted by Camden County College.
Special recognition goes to Elizabeth Park, Christopher Mangahas, and Sanjay Mahadevan for earning a 5th place medal in Protein Modeling, and to Daryl Hoehne and Elizabeth Park for taking the 2nd place medal in Forensic Science out of 23 teams!

Scientist presents STEM assembly at LMS
Lawrence Middle School (LMS) 7th graders were treated to a STEM assembly on February 4 by Dr. Chuck Cadle, CEO of Destination Imagination. Dr. Cadle spoke about the infinite possibilities in science careers and talked about his own career path which included impressive work with digital phone signals and satellites.
 After the assembly, Dr. Cadle had lunch with students from the LMS Mad Science Club, pictured above with LMS science teacher/Club advisor, Tracy Bozarth, far right. The visit was arranged by the USA Science & Engineering Festival after LMS enrichment teacher Priscilla Taylor entered their contest for LMS to receive a visit by a scientist. The USA Science & Engineering Festival is scheduled for April 15-17, 2016 in Washington, D.C. Ms. Taylor has applied for a grant that would enable students to attend the festival.

BF 3rd grader bests principal in challenge
Peyton Ivey, 3rd grader at Ben Franklin (BF) earned the privilege of challenging Principal B.J. Meurer in a Sit & Reach test when she was the high scorer (16.5 in) in that category at the recent 6th Annual Ben Franklin Third Grade Fitness Challenge.
On January 22, Peyton won the challenge and the title (1st Place - 18 in) by soundly defeating Principal Meurer (2nd Place - 14 in). Peyton not only secured the victory, but she shattered the all-time high mark and set a new school record!

Lawrence High School (LHS) athletics update
Sophomore Adam LeCompte repeated as the Mercer County Champion when LHS boys swept 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place at the 48th Annual Mercer County Diving Championships at Montgomery High School on January 27. Adam won his second straight County title with a score of 253.00. Following in second place was sophomore Ryan Morris, with sophomore Luke Annand in third.
Several boys and girls varsity swimmers qualified for the NJ Individual State Tournament at the end of February: Angelina Franceschini (200 freestyle); James Keane (400 freestyle); and Yauheni Paskevich, Kyle Jorgensen, James Keane, and Anthony Weiss (400 freestyle relay).
Junior Myles Mitchell-White (pictured below holding basketball) joined an elite group of athletes as he scored his 1000th career point during the boys' varsity basketball game versus Ewing High School on January 29!

Lawrence Science & Engineering Fair
Come to the Science & Engineering Fair on Saturday, February 20, from 1-3PM at Lawrence High School (LHS). With over 150 students in grades 4-8 entered in the competition, along with 15 community tables full of hands-on science experiments, this will be a free, fun family event. See flyer.

Workshop for parents of children with special needs
The next installment in a series of workshops provided for parents of students with special needs is A Parent Support Group, scheduled for Wednesday, February 24 at 9:45 a.m. at Lawrenceville Elementary School (LES).
Presenter Michelle Kotch, MA, Ed.S., LPC will discuss ways you can take care of yourself while taking care of a child with special needs. RSVPs are required - call LES main office at (609) 671-5571 before February 16.
