LIS art teacher participates in Trenton art initiative
Earlier this month, Howard Michaels, Lawrence Intermediate School (LIS) art teacher, was involved in an art initiative in Trenton entitled "Windows of Soul." Based on info Howard provided:
He participated in the fourth installment of this initiative. Trenton's SAGE Coalition stepped in to bring a bit of positivity, organizing a unique group of artists and volunteers for a three-day event. Each day took place in a different part of the city...in areas often viewed as tough and/or marred by violence.
The initiative seeks to transform vacant and boarded up buildings into an open-air gallery by artists who have submitted work or are painting live at the event. In a neighborhood often marred by violence, a little bit of soul would go a long way.

Banner salutes music education
A new banner commemorating the district's seven years of receiving recognition from the NAMM Foundation for being one of the "Best Communities for Music Education" is on display at Lawrenceville Elementary School.
LTPS is one of just 388 districts nationwide to qualify for the honor in 2015, which takes into consideration breadth and scope of music programming, district financial commitment to music education, community access to school performances, and identifying and pursuing areas of growth for existing programs. The banner was provided by the Lawrence Township Education Foundation (LTEF).
