Jorgensen achieves Gold Award
Congratulations to recent Lawrence High School (LHS) grad, Lindsay Jorgensen, who completed a large-scale global reading project as part of her quest to achieve her Girl Scout Gold Award. Lindsay is a member of Troop 71526 and began her "Golden Audio Books" project in the spring of 2014. The project was designed to provide English language children's books along with custom recorded read aloud CDs to the children of Jian-an School in New Taipei City, Taiwan.

Jian-an School is a sister school of Ben Franklin Elementary.

Lindsay collected hundreds of books, researched the best way to prepare recordings using a range of technologies and brought together many members of the LTPS community to record books. The project will ultimately put 435 books and recordings into the hands of students at Jian-an elementary school, where learning English is a priority.

The Girl Scout Gold Award represents the highest achievement in Girl Scouting and challenges girls to make the world a better place by solving community problems. Lindsay will be recognized at an annual Girl Scout ceremony in the spring, where she will be presented with her Gold Award pin.

LIS receives Podmore Dwyer Historic Award
The Lawrence Township Growth and Redevelopment Committee, in conjunction with the MID-Jersey Chamber of Commerce selected Lawrence Intermediate School (LIS) to receive the Podmore Dwyer Historic Award for its annual 4th grade historical field trip. Each year the township committee presents eight awards to businesses, individuals and civic groups that have enhanced the community in a special way.

Melissa Clark, LIS parent and Lawrence Middle School music teacher, nominated LIS for the award. The 4th grade field trip was originally funded in 2011 with a grant from the Lawrence Township Education Foundation (LTEF) that was used to purchase books entitled "A Guide to Lawrenceville's Historic Landmarks." Maureen Hayes, K-6 district supervisor, along with township historian Dennis Waters and Dan Ben-Asher initiated the grant and the first field trip. The trip features a tour of historic homes, Brearley House and other landmarks in Lawrence Township. LIS gifted and talented teacher Jessica Heller has been involved in organizing the trip since 2012. The award will be presented on October 14 at 8:00 am at the Boys & Girls Club in Lawrence.
