Greetings!

The last day of school is Tuesday, June 23 and is an early dismissal day.

Lawrence High School's graduation is Thursday, June 25 at 7PM at Sun National Bank Center. See directions here.

The July 8 Board of Education (BOE) meeting is cancelled. Upcoming BOE meetings are Tuesday, June 23 at 6:30 p.m. in the Lawrence High School library and Wednesday, July 15 at 6:30 p.m. in the Lawrence Middle School library.

Sen. Cory Booker takes selfie with NJ students
LMS students compete with 2,966 other students (gr. 6-12) at National History Day

After eight months of preparation and advancing past regional and state rounds, five Lawrence Middle School (LMS) students qualified to participate in the national and final round of competition for National History Day (NHD) in College Park, Maryland the week of June 14, 2015. The 2015 theme is "Leadership and Legacy in History." National qualifiers are Gabe Gutierrez, Izabella Mus, Toby Webster, Grace Dismukes, and Gill Woody. LMS Gifted and Talented Specialist Priscilla Taylor is the mentor for National History Day.

One of the LMS students' exhibits was selected by the state of New Jersey to represent our state at the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C. on June 17 during the day and at a "Night at the Museum" reception for NHD sponsors; invited guests; and teachers, students and their families. The exhibit selected for this honor was "Jacqueline Cochran and the WASP: Leading Women out of their Domestic Lifestyles and into the Air." Gabe Gutierrez, Izabella Mus, and Toby Webster created the Junior Group Exhibit.

 

One trip highlight was meeting U.S. Senator Cory Booker from New Jersey.  Hear Sen. Booker relate to students his experience as a public speaker in 7th grade.

Students help every dog have its day

Lawrence High School (LHS) Transition Services donated $300 to Dachshund Rescue of Bucks County & New Jersey. The funds are proceeds from the LHS students' Valentine's Day homemade dog biscuit sale. Dr. Kura, president and medical director, along with Leonard, were happy to receive the donation. High paw (doggie high five)! LHS teacher Stacey Zegas instructs the class.

Board appoints new administrators for LIS and LES
At the June 10 Board of Ed (BOE) meeting, the BOE approved the Superintendent's
recommendations for two administrative positions. Beginning September 1, Amy Amiet current Eldridge Park music teacher, is the Lawrence Intermediate School (LIS) Assistant Principal and beginning July 1, Melissa Lockett, current Instructional Services supervisor, is the Lawrenceville Elementary Principal.  Amy fills the position vacated by Cindy Westhead as she was appointed LIS Principal. Melissa will step in for Judy Bronston who was appointed Director of Personnel and Administrative Services, replacing current director Rebecca Gold who retires August 1.

LHS Class of 2015 Senior Awards
Congratulations to the graduating seniors who received one or more of the 90 scholarships and awards presented at the Lawrence High School (LHS) Class of 2015 Senior Awards Ceremony on June 11. See the list of awards and recipients here.

BOE and LTPSA reach tentative contract agreement

After three meetings that began in March 2015, the Lawrence Township Board of Education (BOE) and the Lawrence Township Principals and Supervisors Association (LTPSA) reached a tentative agreement on June 15, 2015. LTPSA represents the district's principals, assistant principals, supervisors, and athletic director.  Their current contract expires June 30, 2015. Settlement details will be released once both parties review and ratify the agreement.

LTPS receives media awards
The National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA) selected four of our district's entries as award winners in this year's Publications and Electronic Media Awards Contest. The Link newsletter and QuickNews, this e-newsletter, received Merit awards and the Back-to-School Bulletin and Character Education Video received Honorable Mentions. Steven Prentiss, informational technology supervisor, created the Character Ed video, and Lana Mueller, operations manager, produced the other publications.

Community Programs
"An American Epidemic" - free movie screening

"More than 120 people die in America every single day due to an overdose. It's a national epidemic. No demographic of this country is immune..." On July 1 at Kelsey Theatre, the Prevention Coalition of Mercer County will present a free screening of "An American Epidemic", a documentary that explores the effects of America's opioid and heroin epidemic through the eyes of parents, siblings, and recovering addicts. Kids Marathon & Fun Run

There's still time to register kids in grades K-8 for the 1.2 mile Fun Run, the final leg of the 7th annual Princeton HealthCare System Kids Marathon on Saturday, June 27. See flyer or register at princetonhcs.org/kidsmarathon.
