HBCU scholars inspire LHS juniors

Thirteen Lawrence High School (LHS) juniors accompanied by Majorie Cobin, LHS guidance counselor, recently spent the day at Educational Testing Service (ETS) in Princeton listening to presentations by recipients of the ETS Presidential Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Scholars Awards.  The university students each presented research they conducted while attending their college or university that covered a variety of topics, ranging from "Diversity Inclusion in Computer Science" to "The Fight for a Quality Education" to "Investigating the Interaction of Competing Adsorbents on Pt Catalyst Using Electrochemical Techniques."  LHS students were able to ask questions after each presentation.  The student's response was enthusiastic with ETS extending an invitation to LHS for next year's awards.

LHS Theater IV class takes top awards at Bucks County Playhouse Theater Festival

The Lawrence High School (LHS) Theater IV class performed two plays at the annual Bucks County Playhouse High School Theater Festival on April 14. They competed with three other high schools and took home three of the top awards:

 

Outstanding Student Director:  Sabrina Williams

Outstanding Production:  To Burn a Witch (starring Amanda Peterson, Caroline Bohra, Samantha Slaza, and Sarah Dauer)

Outstanding Actor:  Aaron Katlin

Shark Tank ...coming soon!
The Entrepreneurs have been selected and the Sharks are in place for the upcoming Shark Tank! Hosted by LHS's Business and International Studies Academy, the event is Friday, May 1 at 7PM in the LHS auditorium. Tickets are $5 at the door. Secure a ticket in center court of Quaker Bridge Mall tomorrow, Saturday, April. 18 from 11AM to 1PM.

LTPS Jazz Fest with special guest artist - April 25

Like Jazz?  Enjoy student performances? Then mark your calendar for Saturday, April 25 and attend the Lawrence Township Public Schools (LTPS) Jazz Fest! The event is in the Lawrence High School auditorium beginning at 1:30 p.m.

 

Guest artist Brian Pastor of the Philadelphia Pops will work with LTPS students and then will perform with them in a small concert. Student group performances start at 1:30 p.m. and the Lawrence Intermediate (LIS) and Lawrence High (LHS) Big Bands will begin at 2 p.m. Read more here.
Max Schragger cast in Broadway tour of Camelot

Lawrenceville Elementary School (LES) 2nd grader Max Schragger has been cast as Tom of Warwick in the upcoming engagement of the national tour of Lerner & Loewe's Camelot at the State Theatre in New Brunswick on May 3. LES PTO "Dance-A-Palooza" spring fundraiser
The Lawrenceville Elementary School (LES) PTO will sponsor "Dance-A-Palooza," an evening of dancing and family fun complete with raffles and silent auctions, on Saturday, April 18, at ETS headquarters in Princeton. Tickets are $10 each and include food, beverages, and 2 raffle tickets. This event is open to the public - see more details (including a Silent Auction preview) and purchase tickets online here.

The Lawrence Integrated Music Booster Organization (LIMBO) will host 2 fundraising events with proceeds benefiting all music programs at LHS:

 

LHS Day at Posh Salon - April 26

Schedule an appointment at Posh Salon Spa & Beauty Bar on Sunday, April 26 from 10-3 and10% of your service will go to LIMBO. See flyer.

 



Rummage Sale & Car Wash - May 2
LIMBO will hold its annual Rummage Sale & Car Wash on Saturday, May 2 at Lawrence High School (LHS). Clean out your closets, basement and garage of unneeded items and donate them to the Rummage Sale. Donations of clothing, household goods, toys, books, games, electronics, sports equipment, etc. can be dropped off on Friday, May 1 from 5:45 to 9 p.m. in the LHS cafeteria. Shop the sale on Saturday, May 2 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the LHS cafeteria, while getting your car washed outside. Proceeds support all music programs at LHS.
It's time to register for kindergarten!

If your child will be five years old on or before October 1, 2015, he/she is eligible to attend Kindergarten in Lawrence Township Public Schools beginning in September 2015. How do you register? What documents do you need? Begin the pre-registration process here.

 

LTPS-TV This Weekend

 

Saturday & Sunday, April 18-19, LTPS-TV will broadcast one new program on Comcast Channel 19 and Verizon Channel 37 in Lawrence Township:

8AM, 12PM, 5PM & 9PM

Lawrence High School takes on Allentown at home.

Community Programs
Lawrence Safety Town Program - register now!

The Lawrence Township Recreation and Police Departments are pleased to announce registration for the very successful Lawrence Safety Town Program. This year's program will be held June 24 to July 2 at Ben Franklin Elementary School from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. Registration is limited to 65 students with placement on a first come, first served basis. Register online or by returning a completed registration form and $75 fee to the Lawrence Township Recreation Department to reserve your child's place in the program.

MCPCA College Fair
The Mercer County Professional Counselors Association (MCPCA) will be sponsoring a College Fair on Tuesday, April 21 from 6-8PM at Mercer County Community College, West Windsor Campus. Over 100 colleges are expected to attend this annual event and admission is free to Mercer County students and parents. The list of colleges participating in the fair is updated weekly and can be found at www.mcpcaweb.org under "College Fair."
