Greetings!

Wednesday, January 7 is the Board of Education's (BOE) annual reorganization meeting at 6:30 p.m. in the Lawrence High library. Agenda items include swearing in BOE members elected in November 2014 and approving a schedule of regular monthly meetings. No business will be addressed at this meeting. It's anticipated the BOE's regular monthly business meeting will be January 14.

LMS Students Make Toys for Therapy Dogs

In December, the Lawrence Middle School (LMS) Cardinal Time classes of Courtney Doto, Jennifer Rivera, Anna Monasterski, Priscilla Taylor, and Dan Van Lieu made pull toys for dogs to help Attitudes in Reverse (AIR), a local community organization that uses certified therapy dogs to help people with mental health and emotional issues. Certified trainers and their therapy dogs visited the classes to interact with students as they made the pull toys. Therapy dogs River and Shasta, plus therapy dog-in-training Chance, gave their woof of approval for the students' toy making.

LHS Students Explore Engineering Career Day at NJIT

Lawrence High School (LHS) teacher Eric Downs and Instructional Supervisor Yvette Panasowich recently chaperoned 13 LHS students to the campus of New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) for their annual Engineering Career Day. The program is designed to give high school juniors and seniors an opportunity to explore options in several diverse engineering fields. Students were escorted throughout the campus and met with currently enrolled engineering students and faculty. Read more.

Transition Services Holiday Mart Benefits American Cancer Society

The volunteers at the cancer research gift wrap table at the Quaker Bridge Mall were thrilled to accept a Christmas Eve donation of $150 to the American Cancer Society from the Lawrence High School (LHS) Transition students. Students raised the funds by making and selling over 400 holiday gift tags and 60 crayon wreaths at their annual Holiday Mart.

 

Governor's Teacher/Educational Services Recognition Program

Congratulations to the LTPS recipients of the 2014-2015 Governor's Teacher/Educational Services Recognition Program. The New Jersey Department of Education (NJ DOE) has combined the Teacher of the Year program with Governor's Teacher/Educational Services Professional Recognition Program. This new celebratory program will continue to yearly recognize our State's best teachers and educational services professionals.

Boys & Girls Club Seeks Volunteers for Community Center Advisory Group

In preparation for the opening of the new Community Center in September, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Mercer County is actively recruiting community volunteers for its Community Center Advisory Group. The Advisory Group meetings are held every other month.  The next meeting will be January 26 at 6:30 pm at 1040 Spruce Street, Lawrence, NJ. See flyer.
