Slackwood Students Create and Run Arcade Games

At the November 12th Board of Education (BOE) meeting, Slackwood students gave BOE members a real treat as they got to play in the Cardboard Challenge set up in the Lawrence High library.  Inspired by the short film "Caine's Arcade," the Global Cardboard Challenge is an annual event presented by the Imagination Foundation that celebrates child creativity and the role communities can play in fostering it.

LHS Academy Students & Elmo

Students from Lawrence High's Arts & Humanities and Business & International Studies Academies as well as from the TV Studio class visited Sesame Workshop on a recent field trip to NYC. Part of the outing included viewing a display entitled 'Somebody Come and Play" at the NY Public Library for the Performing Arts celebrating Sesame Street's 45 years.  Get a glimpse at this link.  Scroll down in the article and in the short video, you'll see an artist doing a chalk sketch of Big Bird.  This artist is one of the panelists who addressed the students as they learned about the production of Sesame's programs, its international presence, and the art and creation behind the characters.
