LHS DECA members earn recognition at International Conference

120,000 students competed for international awards and scholarships as emerging leaders and entrepreneurs at DECA's 68th Annual International Career Development Conference in Atlanta, Ga. on May 3-6. Twelve Lawrence High School (LHS) DECA chapter members qualified to attend the conference and two received recognition as finalists at the international level:
Criswell Lavery - Human Resource Marketing Top 20 Finalist
Tithi Patel - Sports Marketing Finalist in Written Test

LIS 5th graders visit Artic via Skype
Lawrence Intermediate School (LIS) 5th grade students in Dan Brennan's class trekked to the Arctic via Skype and spoke with scientists and explorers. Learn more: http://www.ltps.org/ArcticLive.

LMS sweeps documentary category at National History Day state competition

Twenty-two Lawrence Middle School (LMS) students participated at the state level of National History Day competition recently held at William Patterson University. Two students earned the top spots in the Junior Individual Documentary category and an additional student was selected as alternate/runner-up, sweeping the category for LMS. One student was also selected as alternate in the Junior Paper category. The 2 winners will head to the University of Maryland beginning June 15 for the national competition. Alternates attend nationals if one of the category winners cannot attend.
Junior Individual Documentary:
Rhea Pathak (Gr. 7) - "'The Jungle' and the Consumer's Right to Safe Food"
Charlie Christoffersen (Gr. 8) - "Prohibition: The 13 Year Sobriety"
Alternate: Rebecca Jacob (Gr. 8) - "Free the Children: A Crusade Against Child Labor"
Junior Paper Category:
Alternate: Emily Mah (Gr. 8) - "One, Maybe Two, Hardly Three: The Family Planning Policy in China"

Additionally, one of our Junior Group Exhibits was awarded a 2nd place national prize by the National Maritime Historical Society for the students' work in helping to preserve maritime history:
Natasha Kalwachwala, Maria Tkacz, and Margaret Tran (Gr. 8) - "U.S.S. Indianapolis's Rights vs. U.S. Navy's Responsibilities."
The girls' names and exhibit pictures will appear on the Society's website and in the magazine, "Sea History."

National Honor Society Induction Lawrence High School (LHS) held its National Honor Society Induction Ceremony on May 1 in the LHS auditorium. A total of 52 students were inducted into the program. View the program from the ceremony here.

LHS students published in aMuse

The Arts Council of Princeton chose the work of Lawrence High School (LHS) students Leanna Smith, Vanessa Conde and Sarah Harmon Dauer to publish in an upcoming issue of aMuse, the Council's literary and art magazine. The LHS Arts and Humanities Academy recently participated in the student publication submission process. The Council will celebrate the students' achievements on June 12 in the Solley Theater at Paul Robeson Center for the Arts.

The Lawrence High School (LHS) Athletic Hall of Fame will hold its annual golf outing on June 26 at Mercer Oaks Golf Course.

Project Graduation needs volunteers
Be a hero to the Lawrence High Class of 2014 by volunteering to chaperone Project Graduation. This all night post-graduation party provides a safe drug- and alcohol-free night for graduates and is only possible through of the generosity of our community! All LTPS parents, community members, alumni (over the age of 21), please consider sharing your time on Wednesday, June 18 between 10PM and 5AM. This Saturday & Sunday, May 24-25, LTPS-TV will broadcast three new programs on Comcast Channel 19 and Verizon Channel 37 in Lawrence Township:
LHS Varsity Softball recorded 4/25/14 (approximately 1 hour 10 minutes)
6AM, 12:30PM, 6PM, & 11PM
Lawrence takes on Allentown.
LHS Boys Varsity Lacrosse recorded 5/15/14 (approximately 1 hour 3 minutes)
8AM, 11AM, 4:30PM, & 9PM
Lawrence takes on Ewing. No announcers were available for this game, but the boys did a great job.
