The Board of Education will hold a public hearing for the proposed 2014-2015 district budget on Wednesday, May 7 at 7 p.m. in the Lawrence High library. Superintendent Crystal Edwards and Business Administrator Tom Eldridge will be in the library beginning at 6:30 p.m. to answer questions.
The next regular Board of Education meeting is Wednesday, May 14 at 7 p.m. in the Lawrence High library.

Natasha Vargas claims 3rd and represents New Jersey in national poetry contest

Out of nine (9) finalists who performed April 30, Lawrence High senior Natasha Vargas recited her way to 3rd place in the Poetry Out Loud National Recitation Contest in Washington, D.C.! She won an award of $5,000 and a $500 stipend for Lawrence High School to purchase poetry books..
This year's recitation contest began with 365,000 students nationwide in high school classrooms. Students competed to represent their high school at regional and then at state finals. One contestant from each state as well as the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, for a total of 53 contestants, competed April 29. Nine contestants advanced to the national finals held April 30.

Eldridge Park School (EPS) received an Adopt-A-School grant from Young Audiences New Jersey, funded by the Educational Testing Service (ETS). The grant's culmination was the creation of an impressive story quilt illustrating the eight Pillars of Character celebrated at EPS. The eight Pillars are Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness,
Caring, Citizenship, Perseverance, and Self-Control.

LMS Model UN Club attends annual conference
In March, the Lawrence Middle School (LMS) Model United Nations Club competed in the 9th Annual Middle School Model UN Conference held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York City. The club competed with over 80 schools from the United States, Canada, Cayman Islands, Ecuador, France, Ghana, Italy, Panama, Taiwan, Turkey, South Korea, Sri Lanka, and Taiwan.
Club members represented countries of Peru and Suriname in several UN committees such as the General Assembly, World Health Organization, Human Rights Council, and the UN Environmental Program and had great success in public speaking, debating, negotiating, and writing resolutions to help tackle many global issues facing our world today. Many club members successfully negotiated their resolutions through the United Nations approval process and were accepted by their committees! LMS Social Studies teacher Dan Christel is the club advisor.
Club members include Aditi Agarkhed, Nash Baria, Twinkle Brahmbhatt, Sofia Centeno, Hutch Collins, Zeke D'Ascoli, Kate Halat, David Horne, Kieran Humphreys, Natasha Kalwachwala, Adam LeCompte, Clara Love, Harshal Nawade, Saumya Shetty, Shriya Shetty, Maria Tkacz, and Roja Vanaparthi.

LIMBO Rummage Sale & Car Wash
Save the date - Saturday, May 10!
Clean out your closets, basements and garages of unwanted items and donate them to the Lawrence High School (LHS) LIMBO Rummage Sale! Donations of clothing, household goods, toys, books, games, electronics, sports equipment, etc. can be dropped off on Friday, May 9 from 4 to 8PM in the LHS cafeteria. Shop the sale on Saturday, May 10 from 8AM to noon in the LHS cafeteria, while getting your car washed outside. Proceeds go to support all music programs at LHS. See flyer.

LTPS-TV This Weekend
This Saturday & Sunday, May 3-4, LTPS-TV will broadcast four new programs on Comcast Channel 19 and Verizon Channel 37 in Lawrence Township:
LHS Girls Varsity Softball recorded 4/17/14 (approximately 1 hour 35 minutes)
6AM, 12PM & 11PM
The girls take on Hamilton West at home. There was no announcer for this game, but it took 10 innings to determine the winner.
LHS Boys Varsity Lacrosse recorded 4/21/14 (approximately 1 hour 22 minutes)
10AM, 2PM Verizon only, & 5:30PM
Lawrence takes on Hamilton West at home in a close matchup.
LHS Gospel Choir Concert recorded 4/25/14 (approximately 1 hour 11 minutes)
8:30AM, 4PM & 8:30PM
Last year the LHS Gospel Choir only had a couple of months to prepare a concert. This year they had the entire school year - tune in to see what they did with the extra time.
