The Norton Book of Women's Lives, a collection of twentieth century women's literature---autobiographies, journals, and memoirs---is the award provided. LIS musicians perform at Honors Band Festival
Eight Lawrence Intermediate School (LIS) students went to the Rahway 7th & 8th Grade Academy on April 12 to participate in a one-day Honors Band Festival. Allison Kershner, LIS band and orchestra director, nominated them initially based on their performance in the LIS Concert Band.
Festival organizers selected students from those nominated and placed them into one of three bands: the "Red Band," the "White Band," and the "Blue Band." Students received acceptance letters and music a few weeks before the festival so they had time to practice.
On the day of the festival, students were placed in ensembles of up to 100 performers from around Central New Jersey to rehearse together and then perform in a concert at the end of the day. Additionally, festival organizers tapped Mrs. Kershner to conduct the White Band.
LIS participating student musicians are:
Red Band
Kaitlyn Malyszka - Bass Clarinet
Dylan Morris - Tenor Saxophone
White Band
Kellen Conway - Clarinet
Shiamak Kalwachwala - Trombone
Justin Knab - Baritone
Joelle D'Angelo - Tuba
Will Yuchmow - Percussion
Blue Band
Kiran Hiremath - Flute
