Vargas Wins State Poetry Recitation
Contest...headed for nationals

Lawrence High School (LHS) senior Natasha Vargas won the state Poetry Out Loud contest today at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark.  She now will represent New Jersey and LHS next month in the final round of the national recitation contest presented by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation in Washington, D.C. 2014-2015 Proposed Budget
Business Administrator Tom Eldridge shared information about next year's proposed budget with the Board of Education (BOE) and public at the March 12th BOE meeting.
 
Next steps are to:
  • Submit the budget to the Mercer County Department of Education for review
  • Hold a public hearing on May 7, 2014 at 7PM in the Lawrence High library
  • Make any budget changes by May 14, 2014.
 
Superintendent Crystal Edwards and Tom Eldridge will be available beginning at 6PM on May 7, prior to the start of the public hearing, for anyone having questions about the budget.  Additionally, you may contact Tom Eldridge at teldridge@ltps.org or (609) 671-5420 with questions.

LTEF Funds Phase II of LHS Library Makeover

The Lawrence Township Education Foundation (LTEF), represented by Paul Schindel, LTEF president, and Ivy Cohen, LTEF executive director, presented the Lawrence Township Public Schools with a $50,000 grant at the March 12, 2014 Board of Education (BOE) meeting.  The award is for Phase II of the Lawrence High School (LHS) library renovation and is the second of the Foundation's three annual grant cycles.

Mahadevan's Work Published in Celebrating Art
 
Ben Franklin 2nd grader Sandhya Mahadevan's art entry into the "Celebrating Art" contest earned an Honorable Mention in the High Merit category, falling within the top 5% of entries submitted. Her piece entitled "The 'Fowl' Play" is published in the Fall 2013 edition of "Celebrating Art." 

 

O'Rourke is Swimmer of the Year Times Two

LES PTO Casino Night & Auction

The Lawrenceville Elementary School (LES) Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) will host its annual spring fundraiser, "Casino Night & Auction," on Saturday, April 5 at 7:00 PM at ETS in Princeton. "Casino Night" will feature a selection of silent auction and raffle items including: a 6-series BMW convertible for the weekend, a weekend away in New York City, 4 Park Hopper Tickets to Disney World, tickets to LIVE with Kelly & Michael, an American Girl doll, authentic Steiner Sports Memorabilia from MLB, the NFL and more. St. Baldrick's Day Fundraiser

Saturday, March 15 is the St. Baldrick's fundraiser at Amalfi's Restaurant in Lawrenceville. To date, Lawrence participants have raised over $90,000 for this year's event. As stated on their website: The St. Baldrick's Foundation is a volunteer-driven charity committed to funding the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long, healthy lives. Drop by Amalfi's and see students, staff, and parents shaving their heads for this cause.

ECV Summer Enrichment Program Open House

Learn more about the Every Child Valued (ECV) Summer Enrichment Program for K-4 students at their open house on Thursday, March 20 at 6PM. See flyer.

Community Connections Speaking Series

St. Paul Lutheran Church in Flemington is offering a series of speaking events addressing prevalent issues that affect our communities. The topic of the first event on March 29 is Bullying.  

  • 90% of 4th through 8th graders report being victims of bullying.
  • Physical bullying increases in elementary school, peaks in middle school and declines in high school. Verbal abuse, on the other hand, remains constant.
  • Over 3.2 million students are victims of bullying each year.
  • About 42% of kids have been bullied while online with one in four being verbally attacked more than once.
