LTPS District Named a National Finalist in Character Education Program

Lawrence Township Public Schools (LTPS) is one of 50 schools and districts named as a national finalist in the 2014 National Schools of Character (NSOC) program. The Character Education Partnership (CEP), a national advocate and leader for the character education movement, notified LTPS of this distinction last week.

LMS Students Excel at National History Day Regional Competition

On Saturday, March 8 at Princeton University, students from the Lawrence Middle School (LMS) Enrichment Challenge Program joined students from 19 other middle schools to participate in the Region 1 competition of National History Day. After the judging sessions, 22 of the 48 students participating from LMS qualified to move on to the State level of competition in the Junior Division on May 3 at William Paterson University. LTPS Teachers Host Sessions at State G&T Conference

Jessica Heller, Jeanne Muzi and Priscilla Taylor, LTPS Gifted and Talented specialists, presented two sessions to a full house at the New Jersey Association of Gifted Children Annual Conference on March 7.
The first session was "Engineering Explorations!" which focused on developing problem solving skills, higher order thinking and creativity. The session included an overview of projects and ideas that can be successfully implemented across K-8 grade levels. Participants learned how to develop STEM understanding and application by utilizing challenging learning experiences designed to develop content knowledge as well as inspire curiosity.
During the second session, the three LTPS teachers moderated an informative roundtable discussion about Student Growth Objectives (SGO's), the evaluation process and gifted and talented (GT) requirements. It was an open session and GT teachers from across the state shared their comments, questions, ideas, and concerns as Jessica, Jeanne and Priscilla facilitated the discussion.

LHS Shark Tank Competition
 The first annual Cardinal Shark Tank Competition will take place Thursday, April 3 from 7-9PM in the Lawrence High School (LHS) auditorium. Tickets are $5 at the door --- space is limited so arrive by 6:45. Contestants: Teachers - Matt Davis/Sean Carney, Chris Gresko, Dana Williams, Erika Stubbs Students - Shiwanee Rangaswamy (LHS), Zach Weyand (LHS), Mike Marsh/Ian Rosenast (LHS), Andrew Takasugi/John Gow (LHS), Emily and Lyla Allen (LIS), Chris Turnbull & his BF Buddies (BF), Chris Casole (LIS), Marley Thomas/Jessica Harbaugh (LIS) Sharks: Teachers - Jametta Holloway/Victoria Chludzinski, Anthony Ammirata/Greg Meehl Students - Thomas Ikeda/Tithi Patel, Anthony Scardelletti/Hamza Asif Both groups will be judged by volunteers from Edison Ventures, Santander Bank, The Explorers Passage, Deloitte & Touche, ETS, and Northwest Mutual. Prizes were donated by local sponsors including Bossio's, Chamber's Walk, Honey Baked Ham, Hoodie Pillows, Lawrenceville Fuel, PC Richards, Olive Garden, Purple Cow, The Perfect Snaque, Varsity's Pizza, Village Barber Shop, and more. Half of the proceeds from the event will go to our charity partner, Special Olympics of NJ. |
Connie Stanger Selected for MCPCA Merit Award
The Mercer County Professional Counselors Association (MCPCA) selected Connie Stanger, LHS guidance secretary, to receive the "Merit Award" for 2013-2014. The award recognizes someone who is not a counselor or member of MCPCA but has shown dedication and support to the counseling profession on a daily basis. Connie will receive her award at the MCPCA recognition dinner later this year. |
