Green Named National Achievement Scholarship Finalist

Lawrence High School senior Daniel A. Green has been named a 2014 National Achievement Scholarship Finalist. This was based on his PSAT score from his junior year as well as his continued excellence in the classroom. The scholarship winners will be notified later this month.


O'Rourke Breaks Meet Records Swimming to County Titles

LHS senior Katie O'Rourke continued to make history in her swimming career as she broke two records at the Mercer County 

Swimming Tournament on February 1, as well as being named the Most Valuable Swimmer of the meet for the third year in a row. She's the Mercer County Champion in both the 50-meter freestyle with a meet record of 26.46 and the 100-meter freestyle with a meet record of 57.89. Katie was also named a 2012-2013 United States Swimming Scholastic All-American. 

 

Freshman Gwyneth Lavery won a 5th place medal in the 100 breaststroke while junior Maeve Humphreys took 6th place in both the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly events. The Lawrence girls' relays placed 2nd in the 200 medley and 200 freestyle. The team came in 5th place overall in a field of 13 teams.

 

Senior Patrick Lavery received a 3rd place medal for the 400 meter freestyle and 4th place for the 200 freestyle events. The boys' relays came in 4th, 5th, and 6th in the 200 medley and 200 and 400 freestyles. The Lawrence boys' team placed 4th out of 13 teams competing.
Jennings & Wolf Repeat as Mercer County Wrestling Champs - Schenck Wins Sportsmanship Award

LHS seniors Michael Jennings and Gordon Wolf both placed first in their respective weight classes at the Mercer County Wrestling Tournament on February 1. This is the 4th consecutive county title for Jennings and the 3rd for Wolf. Senior Georgy Joachim took 2nd place in the 160 lb. weight class.

 

Senior Gavin Schenck won the 2014 Mercer County Wrestling Tournament Sportsmanship award, an honor that is voted on by all of the coaches in the county.

LMS Wrestlers Finish Strong at Mercer County Middle School Tournament

Lawrence Middle School (LMS) Junior Varsity and Varsity wrestlers had strong individual showings at the recent Mercer County Middle School Wrestling Tournament. Jeff Rick, Business Education teacher at LHS, is the Middle School wrestling coach.

 

Junior Varsity:

Dawson Aime, Anarbold Ganbold, Alex Marion, and Juan Ordonez - 1st Place

Connor Verga and Ahronn Sokham - 2nd Place

Ryan Sullivan and Mehdi Raza - 3rd Place

 

Varsity:

Zion Ojibway-Marshall and Zaire Smith - 3rd Place

Efrain De Leon - 4th Place

Ryan Kaelblein, Jake Dembowski, and Brandon West - 5th Place

Vendors wishing to sell at the Lawrence High School (LHS) Craft and Gift Show on March 22 should register now. See registration form for vendor categories and additional information. Proceeds will benefit the LHS DECA Club and Student Council.

Recreation Dept Sports Squirts Classes

The US Sports Institute in conjunction with the Lawrence Township Recreation Department is offering two spring sports programs for children ages 2-5. Choose Total Sports Squirts for a taste of several sports or Parent & Me Soccer Squirts for children ages 2-3 and a parent. Register before February 14 for 10% discount. See flyer.

Lawrence Lacrosse Club Registration is Closing

Registration for the Lawrence Lacrosse Club's Boys Program (Grades 3-8) will close this Saturday, February 15. Registration deadlines for all Spring 2014 programs are listed below:

  • Boys Travel (Grades 1 - 2) - March 15, 2014
  • Boys Travel (Grades 3 - 8) - February 15, 2014
  • Girls Travel (Grades 1 - 4) - March 15, 2014
  • Little Laxers for Girls and Boys (PreK - K) - April 5, 2014
