Dear OUTreach friend,
We were filled with joy and excitement when we welcomed Jackson home for a brief visit. He is less than two weeks away from the end of the Biggest Loser competition, still going strong and looking to win!
OUTreach youth have been working on several projects: a special health issue of the Blank Page magazine, special Jackson t-shirts, and are planning a party next week to celebrate our favorite inspiration. Stay tuned for how you can get a t-shirt, a magazine, and be a part of our celebration for Jackson.
This week, though, there is serious, important work to do - please contact your legislator to urge support of Bill 262 (read more below). Join OUTreach youth and concerned citizens on Capitol Hill Thursday at 4:00 p.m. with details and updates at Utahvalues.org.
OUTreach is committed to saving lives and transforming communities - won't you join us and help to create a state where every youth and adult is valued? Now is the time!

Read an article about Jackson in the March 6 edition of the Standard Examiner. An excerpt:
"Ever notice that colorful wristband contestant Jackson Carter wears on "The Biggest Loser"? Molded into the bracelet is the Ogden OUTReach Resource Center logo. And that, among other things, helps the final-five contestant remember why he took on the series' grueling challenge, losing 93 pounds in the first 10 weeks of the fitness reality show.
"It's easy to forget why you are doing something," Carter, of Layton, told the Standard-Examiner. "The trainers are grinding us into the ground, and what keeps me going is visual reminders. I keep a pair of my fat pants to remind me that I never want to go back to that weight. I have a picture of my family. And volunteering at Ogden OUTReach, I've been a good role model for the kids I work with before, but I was never able to lead by example when it came to fitness."
Ogden OUTReach offers support to young lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and their friends, family and allies. The center has been staging weekly viewing parties to celebrate Carter's success.
"After I left, they started an exercise program," said Carter, 21. "Every week, the youth are getting exercise, and they are having a bigger hand in what is prepared in the kitchen. They are jumping in with both feet. Me taking the initiative to get control of my weight makes them want to do it."
