College Now Receives $50,000 Grant from Westfield Insurance Foundation to Serve Adult Learners
College Now recently received a two-year, $50,000 grant from Westfield Insurance Foundation to support work with adult learners. This award furthers Westfield's focus on family stability by providing philanthropic support to non-profit agencies who utilize comprehensive approaches to help families overcome multiple barriers and achieve greater stability.
Specifically, this grant will support College Now's new "You First" initiative. You First is a collaborative, neighborhood-based, low-income-family-focused effort designed to provide guided career exploration, college access advising and financial aid counseling aimed at maximizing aid and minimizing debt in order to increase parents' access to and completion of postsecondary education at non-profit, public and private institutions. Postsecondary educational attainment will qualify individuals for careers with salaries that meet or exceed living wages, salaries that can support their families.
College Now was one of six grantees awarded funds for work that furthers family stability. College Now hosted Westfield in the downtown Resource Center on December 14, 2015, for the presentation of the grant award. Thank you, Westfield, for your support of You First and College Now's work with adult learners!

Mentor a College Student to Success with College Now!
Think back to when you were 18 - did you have all the answers? Chances are, you benefitted from the advice and guidance of an adult. Whether it was a professor, employer or another figure in your life, someone took the time to get to know you and help you grow as a person. College Now invites you to pay it forward and play just such a role. Join our 1,100 mentors and make a difference in a student's life!
"The one-on-one mentoring relationship is something that I would have loved when I was in college, and I am so glad that the program exists for [my mentee]. I think at all stages in life, but especially in college, you just need someone in your corner to back you up, and that is exactly what this program does." ~College Now Mentor
The first three years of the program show mentors' impact: 97% of mentored freshmen continued on to their sophomore year of college! In 2016-17, College Now will invite another 350 freshmen students to the program. These students need mentors who can assist them with the connections and insight they need. To contribute to the success of one of our students and become a mentor, you must hold a college degree (Associate's or above), pass a background check, and be willing to work with a student for his/her four years of college. No prior mentoring experience is necessary. The time commitment is minimal, and the results are wonderful!
Consider applying TODAY, and join the ranks of over 1,000 mentors in making a difference for a local student!
If you would like more information, contact Madeline Rife, Mentoring Program Manager at mrife@collegenowgc.org or 216.635.0163. You may also visit College Now's web site, or watch this short video about the program.
