OLYMPIC UPDATE:
SAILOR TAKES SKILLS INTERNATIONALLY

Charlotte finished 55th out of 73 women in the Women's Worlds in Mexico. Her competition was professional athletes, Olympians representing 33 countries. A remarkable of effort and experience for a 15 year old. What was thoroughly pleasing for us is how she kept up with her school work. Working hard on her studies before and after sailing.
This weekend she has gone to LA for US Sailing Team training. This training is in preparation for the Youth World Cup events later this year. In addition to North American and National events in Ohio and Portland in July.

WESTSIDE WELLNESS EVENT TAKES OVER CAMPUS

Last week during both lunches, Ms. Brame with HealthCorps and HISD's Nutrition Department Hosted Westside's Wellness Event! There was plenty to see and sample.
- HISD Nutrition Healthy Cooking Demos and Sampling
- HealthCorps booth had information & giveaways
- Urban Agriculture student garden display
- Westside Culinary Academy - Donations were accepted to support the Red Cross relief efforts for those impacted by the flood waters in the Greater Houston area.
It was a great chance to get a taste of the programs and clubs on campus that promote healthy living. Students and teachers learned how to feel their best and how to get involved on campus!

WESTSIDE WELLNESS: EPSOM SALTS

When you start a workout routine, your body has to adjust to the increase in movement, and muscles need time to recover while building strength.
Epsom salt baths are a popular way to relax muscles, but many people do not know exactly why this practice is helpful to us. Here are the top 5 benefits of Epsom salts for the body: - Muscle soreness, bruises, and sprains can all be reduced with regular Epsom salt baths.
- When poured into water, Epsom salts create "reverse osmosis", a process that both detoxifies the body and replenishes magnesium.
- Magnesium in Epsom salts helps to increase blood flow, improve nerve function, and reduce inflammation.
- Use of Epsom salts promotes relaxation, as the magnesium produces serotonin, which creates a sense of calm in the body.
- The sulfates contained in Epsom salts can ease digestion because they release digestive enzymes through stimulation of the pancreas.

CHOICES CORNER: PARENT ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION & PRESENTATION

School is almost over but that doesn't mean that parenting is all smiles. Our students are entering into different chapters of their lives; some will be going to the next grade level while others are entering into college and or the workforce.
As parents, if your child is still living in your home or if you will be funding their college tuition, it is important to continue with setting rules, limits, and expectations. For those parents that will have their teen go to college may need to revamp, add or change certain aspects of the family code.
This Friday, May 13, at 8 a.m., in the mini theater, there will be breakfast and a presentation with a roundtable discussion on key topics including how to revamp, change, or powerfully implement your family code. Also, setting limits with your teen(s) is a must, whether they're leaving for college or entering into the next grade level it has to be done.
This presentation and round table discussion will equip you with how to do that successfully. Remember, the earlier the limits are set the likelihood of your child's success will follow. Dr. Crystal Collier and I can't wait to see you this Friday at 8 a.m., in the mini theater!
