CULINARY COOKS UP THE HOLIDAY SEASON

Westside's Culinary Academy, led by Chef Martin and Chef Bell, hosted a very delicious pre-Thanksgiving meal in our courtyard!
The culinary students cooked and served your choice of chicken and sausage gumbo or seafood gumbo along with a very tasty cajun turkey! The meal was rounded out with cornbread, sweet potato pie, and lemonade. The food was absolutely delicious and was served with great smiles!

BAND'S WINTER MARCH-A-THON

Gather your friends & neighbors for this Special Holiday Treat
while supporting the Westside Wolf Band. This Saturday, December 5, the Wolf Band will be taking it to the streets of Lakes of Parkway to play some sweet pop tunes and hiliday favorites. You can see and hear them between 2:30 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. If you live in Lakes of Parkway, stay home and have a private concert come to you!
There are three ways to support the Band:
- Pay for a private concert in front of your house!
- Donate when the band passes by along the route.
- If you do not wish to donate, please still come & support the event with your presence.
Don't miss out on this special event. Funds raised will benefit the program going toward the purchase of instruments, uniforms, and other supplies.

WESTSIDE WELLNESS: PLANNING PORTIONS

Raise your hand if you had a little too much fun with Thanksgiving food (mine is raised too)! While thankful for its abundance, most of us are familiar with the sluggish feeling of overindulging in holiday food. No need for guilt, but a perfect time to reassess eating habits and prepare for more holiday meals to come! The typical American diet has much larger portions compared to our friends overseas. Let's take a cue from the portion size comparisons below for healthier, more digestible meals!
- 1 cup cooked rice/pasta = 1 baseball
- 1 cup fresh fruit/vegetables = 1 baseball
- ¼ cup almonds = about 24
- 2 tbs peanut butter/hummus = 1 golf ball
- 3 oz. meat/poultry = deck of cards
- 3 oz. grilled/baked fish = check book
- 1 oz. cheese = 3 stacked dice
- 1 tbs dressing = 1 poker chip
- 1 tsp oil = size of tip of thumb
Try using these visuals when planning snacks and meals, and see your energy improve!
