MARCHING BAND EARNS FIRST-DIVISION RATING

With football season in full swing, you would think that the marching band has its plate full. Their plate isn't just full, it's overloaded, as the UIL District Competition takes center stage...in the middle of the week.

Last Tuesday evening, the Westside Marching Band went into the UIL District Competition with hopes of putting on a good show. It wasn't just good, it was great, and it earned them a First-Division Rating, and a trip to the UIL Area Competition.

The new music department directors have set the bar high in their first competition leading the Wolves Marching Band, the our Wolves were up to the challenge.

STUDENTS ENGULFED IN HOMECOMING WEEK

This morning, Westside students entered their house under a canopy of spirit as they get a sense of who is ready to prove who is "The Best of the West"! Each house showcased what makes it the best house at Westside!

Students volunteered their time last Friday and Saturday to decorate their houses.

CHOICES CORNER: RED RIBBON WEEK

Today is the first day of Red Ribbon Week!

The Red Ribbon Campaign was started when drug traffickers in Mexico City murdered DEA agent Kiki Camarena in 1985. This began the continuing tradition of displaying Red Ribbons as a symbol of intolerance towards the use of drugs. Red Ribbon Week is an ideal way for people and communities to unite and take a visible stand against drugs.

We will be celebrating this tradition all week. Today and tomorrow at lunch in the commons, with the help of the "P.A.S.S. It Along" Club, I will be passing out red ribbons for students. We hope that everyone will wear their ribbons all week and keep the conversation going.

Thank you in advance for your support and I am looking forward to another fun Red Ribbon Week!

Please see the Choices webpage for more information.
