FINE ARTS PERFORMANCE

This year's annual "Shades of Blue" concert is bigger, better, and bluer!!

We are inviting everyone in our community to come out and enjoy a "jazz club" atmosphere with performances by our Jazz Band and Percussion Ensemble.

Something new this year is that we are featuring the Chamber Orchestra, Show Choir, and West Briar Jazz Band and Percussion.

Also new this year, is an art display by the Art Department featuring "A Study in Blue". Light food and beverages will be served.

Please fill out the form and submit to the band department to reserve your table/seats.
SENIOR FUNDRAISER

This semester, seniors have two options to fundraise for after prom expenses.

Option A is to sell Dave and Buster's Power Cards that are $20.00 each. At after prom each senior receives a $5.00 power card for games, however they cannot purchase more time at after prom. These additional cards can be used at any Dave and Busters at any time.

Option B is to sell 32 oz. tumbler cups with lids. There are many options of different cups including college logos, sports teams, and Westside High School. Students will receive these order forms this week and every cup is $12.00 cash or checks payable to WHS PTO.

If students want extra arcade time or have tumbler cups to order, all purchase, orders and payments must be placed Thursday, March 13, or Friday, March 14, in the Commons at lunch with cash or checks payable to WHS PTO.

Contact Ms. Kaylin Brett at kbrett@houstonisd.org with any questions or concerns.

DEBATE SENDS WORLDS TEAM TO NATIONALS

One of the Westside Debate Worlds Teams earned a trip to Nationals by placing second at the Houston Urban Debate League City Championships.  The City Championships were held in court rooms at the Federal Building in downtown.

Seniors Andrea Dimijian, Emma Wu, and Molly Wu will be traveling to Kansas City this summer to compete against the best debaters in the country. At each tournament, the best speaker for each division is rewarded with a gavel, which is the highest honor at the tournament. At some point during the school year, each member has won a best speaker gavel. These ladies represent Westside to the best of their abilities and we wish them the best.

Below are a few pictures of the Westside Debate Teams from the final rounds at the HUDL City Championsips this past weekend:

HOST A FOREIGN EXCHANGE STUDENT

Hosting a foreign exchange student is just like having your own child attend Westside. These students have become a part of the fabric of Westside through participation in academics, athletics, and clubs/organizations. The friendships they have developed have further enrich their stay in the United States.  Everybody involved will tell you that it is truly the experience of a lifetime, for both the host families and exchange students.

If you are interested in hosting, or have questions about hosting, an exchange student for the 2014-2015 school year, please contact Erik Ostergren at eostergr@houstonisd.org or call 281-920-8075.

This year, Westside is fortunate to have eight wonderful exchange students. We have three students who hail from Germany; the remaining students come from an eclectic mixture of countries: Belgium, Romania, Austria, China and Canada.

CHOICES CORNER: DATING SAFETY SEMINAR

Reminder! This Thursday, February 27, I am hosting a Dating Safety Seminar that will include information about how to build a healthy relationship, dealing with break ups, abuse, unhealthy relationships and much more.

Students will be able to submit anonymous questions at the beginning and I will leave time at the end to discuss the answers. The seminar will be held before late start Thursday from 8:00 a.m.-9:15 a.m.

The seminar is open to all students and for those who attend, they will have a chance to win a $25 gift card. There will also be snacks! Please encourage your teens to come check it out!

If you have any questions, please email me: mparsley@council-houston.org or call me: 281-920-8000 ext. 6190.

We value your feedback!
