SENIORS - COLLEGE
|
If you need information or help with FASFA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), then mark February 20, on your calendar.
Westside High School will host a FAFSA Day Event from 6-8 p.m. that will allow seniors and their families to complete the FAFSA (or TAFSA for students who do not qualify as U.S. citizens or permanent residents).
Additionally, during the February 20 school day, Westside will integrate FAFSA completion education and financial literacy opportunities for all students.

FINE ARTS PERFORMANCE

This year's annual "Shades of Blue" concert is bigger, better, and bluer!!
We are inviting everyone in our community to come out and enjoy a "jazz club" atmosphere with performances by our Jazz Band and Percussion Ensemble.
Something new this year is that we are featuring the Chamber Orchestra, Show Choir, and West Briar Jazz Band and Percussion.
Also new this year, is an art display by the Art Department featuring "A Study in Blue". Light food and beverages will be served.
Please fill out the form and submit to the band department to reserve your table/seats.

ABC GOLF TOURNAMENT

This year's WHS Golf Tournament is February 19, at Cinco Ranch, 11 a.m. registration and shotgun start at 1 p.m. Here are links to find information about the golf tournament Donor Form, Sponsorship Form, Golfer Registration and for those who don't golf, but want to join us in the evening, a Dinner Form.
We are asking each sport to be represented by at least four golfers and one hole sponsor, as well as items for the silent auction. We also need items for the golf bags, like koozies, note pads, pens, etc.

DEBATE CITY CHAMPIONSHIPS

This past weekend, the Westside Debate Team competed at the first round of the Houston Urban Debate League (HUDL) City Championships. We entered 7 varsity teams and 2 junior varsity, with all but one of them earning trophies or qualifying for the elimination rounds that will be this Saturday at the downtown courthouse.

The Westside Cheerleaders are Cational Champions as they took Team Champion and Grand Champion honors at the United Cheer National Competition in Galveston, this past weekend.

PHOTOGRAPHY STUDENTS NAMED FINALISTS

Jeffery Godinez and Mary Kate Stallings are finalists for the Photographers Forum/Nikon High School/College Photography Competition. They are among 16,600 international finalists who will be in the running for the final awards, as well as being published in this year's edition of the Photographers Forum book.

PRIDE CONTINUES WINNING WAYS

Westside's dance and drill team, Pride, continued its winning ways this past weekend at Dawson High School, where the competition was extremely competitive. Here are the results and team picture:

The boys basketball team downed Bellaire to complete their undefeated sweep in District play and win another District Championship.
The boy basketball team opens the first round of the playoffs against Strake Jesuit, Tuesday, February 18, at Coleman Coliseum. Tip-off is at 5:30 p.m.
Below, Bellaire players can only watch as Frank Iheanacho takes it to the hole and Wesley Van Beck puts up his shot.

CHOICES CORNER: DATING SAFETY SEMINAR

 I hope everyone had a nice Valentine's Day last Friday. Even though the day of celebrating relationships has come and gone, we are continuing our discussion on relationships since it is the Choices topic of the month. On Thursday, February 27, I am hosting a Dating Safety Seminar that will include information about how to build a healthy relationship, dealing with break ups, abuse, unhealthy relationships and much more. The seminar will be held before late start Thursday from 8 a.m.-9:15 a.m. The seminar is open to all students and for those who attend, they will have a chance to win a $25 gift card. There will also be snacks! Please encourage your teens to come check it out!
