STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: KYLA SANDERS
It finally happened.  Three years after starting high school, Kyla Sanders began her senior year and she is pumped! Who wouldn't be excited about starting their senior year? It is a year filled with endings and planning new beginnings.

Just like many other seniors, Kyla is glad to be done with standardized testing.  Whether it be the SAT, ACT, or TAKS, she is pretty happy about not having to sit around for six hours in the same seat, shading in bubbles on an answer sheet.  It's not that she doesn't like shading, but her artistic talents are quite limited with answer sheets.  It art classes, she has the opportunity to let that talent shine.

Below, Kyla holds her latest project from Mrs. Smith's AP Art/Drawing class.  The project had students draw fabric with a focus on shading.

 Kyla

Aside from AP courses, Kyla is active in NHS and plans to join the National Art Honor Society.  Her passion for art is further explored as she is Ms. Smith's Studio Assistant with an Art I class.

As the Class of 2014 finishes the last step of preparatory education, plans for the next step in life must be finalized. Kyla's passion for art has influenced her decision on life after high school.  She plans to go to college where she will double major in graphic design and advertising.  Her choices in universities have been narrowed down to NYU and Texas State.
DANCE WITH PRIDE
Dance With Pride

Westside High School's Pride Dance Team is hosting its Dance with Pride clinic for girls and boys ages 4 through 8th grade.

The clinic is on Saturday, October 5, and includes learning routines, snacks, T-shirt, bow, pom-poms, and a football game performance.

9/11 REMEMBRANCE
In remembrance of the of the events during the attacks of 9/11, the JROTC cadets will be raising the flags at 7:30 a.m., this Wednesday, September 11.

The proclamation signed by President Obama will be read by Cadet Captain Sara Hernandez; our current Westside 22nd Battalion Commander.

By a joint resolution approved December 18, 2001, Congress has designated September 11 of each year as Patriot Day.  Public Law 111-13, approved April 21, 2009, has requested the observance of September 11 as an annually recognized National Day of Service and Remembrance.
ALL SPORTS BOOSTER CLUB: RAFFLE
The Westside High School ABC is sponsoring a raffle to raise money for its general budget.  Tickets are $10, which gets you three chances to win!  The drawing will be November 8 at the Varsity Football game against Bellaire.  You don't need to be present to win.
