CLASS OF 2014

It is time for senior activities to begin.  The first thing on the agenda is taking a senior portrait.  In order for a senior to have their portrait in the yearbook, they will need to have taken their picture at Prestige Portraits by September 23, 2013.

The sitting fee is $10 and you must make an appointment. There are several locations to choose from and a multitude of packages.  Please consult with Prestige about poses, outfits, and options.

WESTSIDE ABROAD
Have you been to the Matterhorn?  No, not the popular attraction at Disneyland, but the mountain in Switzerland.

At the real Matterhorn, junior Robbie Devillier, 2013 graduate  Mufasa Enzor, Mr. Marvin Enzor; Associate Band Director Chad Allen, and 2013 graduate Niki North find a furry friend to pose with for a quick pic.

The recent graduates and students were part of the Star of Texas Ambassadors of Music.  Over 150 band students from Southeast Texas were selected to be part of the Star of Texas Ambassadors of Music program, which took them abroad to perform.

ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: MARTIN IFEDI
It is reasonable to expect big things from big people.  At 6'3 and weighing 265 lbs., Martin Ifedi is living up to expectations as he has been named to the preliminary watch list for the 2013 Rotary Lombardi Award for college football lineman.  Ifedi graduated from Westside in 2010, earning a football scholarship to the University of Memphis.

Last year, Ifedi led the University of Memphis with 11 tackles for lost yardage and 7.5 quarterback sacks.

Eligibility for the award is limited to down linemen, end-to-end, either on offense or defense, who set up no farther than 10 yards to the left or right of the ball, or linebackers who set up no farther than five yards deep from the line of scrimmage.

Initial candidates for the award earned All-American honors, were named to their respective all-conference teams or received 2013 preseason honors.  The Rotary Lombardi Award Watch List will be updated prior to the start of the 2013 season.  Intended as a reference tool for the selection committee, the watch list will be periodically updated and revised through the conclusion of the voting to determine the 12 semifinalists for 2013.

The 44th Rotary Lombardi Award winner will be announced Dec. 11, 2013, at the Wortham Center in Houston, so Ifedi could be returning home to receive the award.  He finished the year with 46 tackles - 13 solo stops and 33 assists - had four quarterback hurries and forced two fumbles during the year.

Following his sophomore season, Ifedi was selected to the 2012 All-Conference USA Second Team by the league's coaches.  Heading into the 2013 season, Ifedi has also been tabbed a second-team, preseason all-American Athletic Conference selection by both Athlon Sports' College Football and Phil Steele's College Football Preview.
Academically, Ifedi earned Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll accolades each of the past three years.

Memphis opens the 2013 season this Saturday, Sept. 7 when the Tigers play host to Duke.
LAX: CONDOLENCES

The Westside Lacrosse family is very saddened by the loss of Dylan Lemmon's mother and our Westside Lacrosse trainer, Linda Ryall.  Linda passed away this past August and the Lacrosse program wanted to express their gratitude for her contributions on and off the field.

Linda played a vital part in the recent success of the Westside Lacrosse Program, from banding and taping to providing rehabilitation plans for athletes.  Her kind heart and loving nature made everyone feel comforted.  Linda was a true LAX mom.

Every member of the Lacrosse program from parents, athletes, and coaches want to offer our deepest condolences to the Ryall family and to Linda's son, Dylan Lemmon.
