Hughes Academy Student Awards
Eighth graders Mallory Mitchell and Jailen Taylor have won the prestigious Karen J. Fraser Award at Hughes Academy! 
  

Karen Jane Fraser, a native of Glasgow, Scotland, was an inspiring teacher devoted to her students.  She taught sixth grade math at Hughes Academy and embodied the spirits of education.  Karen set an example of excellence and was loved and respected by all.  She invested her life in making a difference in the lives of her students in and out of class.  Each year two eighth grade students receive the Karen Jane Fraser Memorial Award for exhibiting outstanding character. Congratulations Mallory and Jailen!

 American Legion Awards

   

Eighth graders Michael Cox and Samantha Britt were presented the American Legion Awards at the 8th Grade Awards Ceremony. The criteria for the award today is given to the school by the local American Legion post and is based on the following qualities:

  

* HONOR: Strength and stability of character, high standards of conduct, keen sense of what is right, adherence to truth and conscience, and devotion to duty and practice of clean speech.


* COURAGE: Bravery in the face of opposition and danger, and grit to stand up for the right and to do ones duty.


* SCHOLARSHIP: Scholastic attainment, evidence of industry and application to studies.


* LEADERSHIP: Ability to lead and accomplish through group action.


* SERVICE: Kindliness, unselfishness, fellowship, protection of the weak, and promotion of interests and welfare of associates without hope of personal reward.

ACE Award
 
Honoring the unsung heroes of Greenville County Schools.  Deserving Students Recognized for Character. Thanks to a partnership between Coaches 4 Character, a local nonprofit organization that emphasizes the importance of education and character development to at-risk students, and Greenville County Schools, two students from every middle and high school in Greenville County will be recognized for exhibiting strong character, academic effort and overcoming the challenges of life.
Representing Hughes Academy is Taylor Henderson and Morgan Cartee. Congratulations to both deserving students.

Garden Help Needed this Summer!

Come help us take care of the Organic Garden at Hughes Academy during the summer months. Help is needed to water plants and compost, maintain and nurture crops, plants and flowers, and harvest vegetables. Staff and volunteer coordinators will be on site to provide guidance and instructions will be provide ahead of time. Students who accompany an adult, may obtain beta hours for their first quarter during the 2013-2014 school year. We need lots of hands to maintain the great work that has been done and ensure that the garden continues to thrive.  Volunteer slots are available Mondays and Thursdays from 8:30-10:30 while school is out.   To see the schedule and sign up, please click on the link below.  For questions please contact
