Winter Wonderland Semi-Formal Dance |
The Hughes Academy Winter Wonderland Semi-Formal Dance will be held Friday, February 8 from 7-9 PM.
The dance is open to 6th, 7th and 8th graders.
The dress code for boys is a collared shirt and slacks (jacket and tie are optional); for girls, semi-formal dresses or slacks. No jeans or shorts. Food and drinks will be provided, as well as a DJ playing all of your favorite songs. Souvenir pictures of you and your friends will be available for purchase.
Tickets will be sold in the cafeteria on Tuesday-Friday 10:30-1:30 this week for $10. They will be $12 at the door. You don't want to miss this fun evening!

Battle of the Brains |
Battle of the Brains (B.O.B.) defeated Berea Middle 116 - 62, February 1st at the Chapman Cultural Center in Spartanburg. BOB will play Mabry Middle on February 25th.
Celebrating 41 years, Battle of the Brains, is a question-and-answer competition. Bill Drake, local radio host of Awake with Drake, is the founder and brains behind this quiz bowl tradition, involving 36 schools from four counties of South Carolina.
Winners are determined through a bracket system, and with cash prizes reaching $1,000, motivation to win is high. The top eight schools, better known as the Elite Eight, are then invited back at the end of the competition to a reception complete with a mock game, dinner, and cash prize awards.

2013 Greenville County Girls and Boys Middle School Basketball Playoffs |
Congratulations on an outstanding season for the Hughes Academy Girls and Boys Basketball Teams. The girls lost to eventual County Champions Mauldin Middle 36-26. They end the season with a 12-2 record. The girls team is coached by Jeff McCoy.
The boys were defeated by
eventual County Champions Bryson Middle 41-32. Their final record is 11-3. They are coached by Courtney Lilliston, Donaldson Career Center. Go Cougars!

We will have a Beta Club meeting on Tuesday, February 5, at 7:45 a.m. in the Media Center. We will discuss the MANDATORY Parent Appreciation night with the students. Key dates for you to remember:
February 12 -- Tell Mrs. Merck what you will be performing.
February 20 -- MANDATORY REHEARSAL right after school. This should not take more than an hour. More details to be given out at the meeting.
February 21 -- MANDATORY PARENT APPRECIATION PROGRAM -- TIME TO BE DETERMINED.

************************************************************************************** The 7th and 8th Grade Beta Clubs traveled to Myrtle Beach for the annual South Carolina Beta Club Convention. Students competed in a number of competitions. Devansh Gandhi took home 3rd place for his Oil/Acrylic painting.

Senator Ross Turner Visit |
The public education discussion with State Senator Ross Turner has been rescheduled for Friday, February 22, 2013 at 9 am at Hughes Academy. If you are not able to attend, please change your RSVP on Eventbrite. This event is sponsored by the SICs at Blythe Academy, Augusta Circle and Hughes Academy.
