Read the Superintendent's Letter

Dear Blaine County Neighbors,

The Blaine County School District is convening a Secondary Education Task Force to develop a framework for secondary education in the district that is based on research proven practices and the values and goals of the Blaine County community as expressed in the Strategic Plan. Last October during the Financial Planning Listening Meetings across the county, the IB Middle Years Programme was identified as an area for further conversation. Read more here.

Robotics Students Celebrate Success
The Blaine County Bots team was in full competition mode recently. The Bellevue Elementary robotics team competed at the College of Southern Idaho in the First Lego League State Tournament. They finished 9th in State out of 31 other championship teams.

Wood River Middle School and Wood River High School sent 23 students to the VEX Robotics Tournament at Idaho State University in Pocatello. The two teams combined earned every trophy but one: Tournament Champion, Design Award and Sportsmanship Award. The state championship is February 26th. WRHS students toured the robotics program at ISU during their visit. Congratulations to all of the teams!
Tf3 = High-Energy Inspiration

Time for Three performed for students last week in the Wood River Performing Arts Theater as part of their three year residency with the Sun Valley Summer Symphony. The trio again showed a high-energy performance and encouraged students to ask questions and participate in the discussions. However, this is not what makes Time for Three's appearances in the Blaine County School District unique. It is the behind the scenes educational opportunities that they provide for our advanced music students. Read more here.

Students Study Local History, Display Art at Community Library
Last year, Alturas Elementary students took a field trip to Ketchum to tour historic buildings and learn about local architecture.  Guided by art teacher Joni Cashman, the students each chose a building to depict through collograph prints.  The students learned how to create layers of material to depict the buildings and how to print on a press.  Now, the prints are on display at the Community Library.  Students, staff and parents celebrated the opening of the exhibition recently. You can view the prints through the end of February at the library.

WRHS freshman Ben Anderson and other members of the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation freestyle team participated in the Sun Valley Spectacular Freestyle event recently. Ben and Luke Rizzo competed with 100 racers from 3 states in the moguls, singles and dual events.  In the U15 age group Luke Rizzo placed 1st in duals and 2nd in singles and Ben Anderson placed 3rd in duals and 7th in singles.Both student athletes have schedules at WRHS that accommodate their competition schedules in the winter, enabling them to participate in academic programs like GATE and other classes.  Parent Kristin Anderson wrote,"Because of the constant support of his teachers and BCSD, my son and his friends can thrive at WRHS and participate in the sport they love."

What Are Average BCSD Class Sizes?
