School Calendar Committee Presents Two Options for School Calendar to Board of Trustees: Both Support Student Attendance and Start Before Labor Day
After several months of meetings, surveys and information-gathering, the School Calendar Committee is proposing two options for the school calendar for the Board of Trustees consideration and discussion at the January 19 meeting The goals of the School Calendar Committee were to develop a calendar that supports school attendance, maximizes student participation in school-related activities, and maximizes learning time. Other goals included minimizing three and four day school weeks, offering Parent Teacher Conferences at the same time, and scheduling all schools (except Carey) for semesters.

Students Compete and Win in Spelling Bee
 Rhyme, mistletoe and friendship were some of the final words in the Bellevue Elementary Scripps Spelling Bee that took place recently.
Earning the chance to move on to the regional Scripps Spelling Bee are Bellevue Elementary students Sam Thornton (far right, 5th grade), Caris Holden (center, 5th grade) and Lucas Smith (far left, 4th grade). Smith won 1st place in the Scripps Spelling Bee.

Student Plans Sound and Recording Studio for SCHS
General contractor, project manager, fundraiser, architect, planner - these are a few of the hats that senior Tyson Spellman is wearing as he spearheads plans for a new sound and recording studio for Silver Creek High School. Financial Plan Next Steps
At the January 19 Board of Trustees meeting, Superintendent Dr. GwenCarol Holmes will present the next steps for creating a Financial Plan.
Questions for the Board of Trustees include:
Reserves: What is the appropriate percentage of reserves to have on hand? What is needed to maintain a strong bond rating? Financial Emergencies: What is a financial emergency? What are the appropriate actions in a financial emergency and by whom? Physical Assets: What is the district's plan for asset maintenance and replacement? Buildings, technology, vehicle fleet, equipment, etc. What are appropriate allocations for the management of physical assets? Administration: What are the appropriate functions of administration? What is the appropriate allocation for administration? Year-end Savings: What does the district do with year-end savings? Long Range Planning: What is our long range forecast for the district in 5, 10, and 15 years? What actions does the district need to take to be prepared? Guiding Principles: What are our shared educational values and goals (see Strategic Plan)? What are our guiding principles for allocating fiscal resources in alignment with these values and goals?
