Read the Superintendent's Letter
Dear Blaine County Neighbor,

The 2015-16 school year is off to a great start. Blaine County School District staff began the year by brainstorming ways to ensure that every student is inspired by a connection to school. Inspiring every student is the first of four goals in our new strategic plan.

We have a vast array of programing for our students and many of them are inspired through these broad offerings. However, we know there are students we have not yet hooked, so we are working to identify those students and find a way to inspire them as well.

It's Time for a New Financial Plan
It's Time for a New Financial Plan.  The Board of Trustees needs your input on the budget.

Come to any meeting that fits your schedule.  Ask questions, give feedback, and help the Board identify ways to create a sustainable fiscal plan.

Why? Since 2006, the budget revenue has remained flat and capped.  In 2011 expenses began exceeding revenue and reserve funds are being used.

We Need Your Voice! What do you value in the Blaine County School District and to what degree do you value programming, class size, etc.?

What insights do you have for dealing with increasing expenses will revenues remain flat?

Blaine County educators became students during the October 1 and 2 state in-service days.  Classes ranged from 4 and 5th grade curriculum mapping to Mathematical Thinking Initiative for para-educators.  Blaine County School District's Curriculum Department organized and offered more than 36 sessions, many taught by BCSD staff.

How Do Parents Access Their Child's Skyward Account?

Parents are given a login to Skyward when their child is first registered for school in the BCSD. If they have lost that information, they need to contact their school secretary with the following information.

1 Their name
2) Their address
3) Their phone number
4) Their child's name
5) Their child's birthday
6) Current email address

The secretaries will verify the information and send a new password.  Alternately, parents can go to the Skyward login page, click on the "Forgot your Login/Password" link. Credentials will be emailed to the email on record.

Construction Academy Students Learn New Skills, Contribute to Kindergarten Classroom
Wood River High School Construction Academy students learned new skills and contributed to a local classroom at the same time.  After part of Alturas Elementary was remodeled to accommodate the new magnet school, Kindergarten teachers discovered a new purpose for a former office space.

Alturas Kindergarten teacher Jacquelyn Jones and Edith Lopez-Millard worked with the WRHS Construction Academy students to create new tables for computers that were customized to fit Kindergarten students.  Jones said, "The adult sized tables and desk chairs were oversized for Kindergarten students.  We knew the high school students could create the perfect spot for our classes.  The space is used for computer software supporting literacy and it provides a comfortable room for students to use iPads with apps that support the Kindergarten curriculum."

WRHS Construction Academy teacher Greg Urbany said, "It's exciting to see students actively engaged in hands-on learning while completing a challenging project. The students are proud of their work."
