Wood River High School Latin students took the National Latin Exam this year. Of the 54 students who took the exam, 18 received awards. Students who received awards include:
Cum Laude - Wesley Brimsteim, Lydia Gutierrex-Cuellar
Magna Cum Laude - Cameron Maxwell, Ernesto Marquez, Winter Stevens, Genesis Quinonez, Jens Blackman, Michael Madsen
Maxima Cum Laude & Silver Medal - Hailey Boyd, Tyson Berkey, Nathan Bingham, Sean Davitt, Nyle Probowo, Cade Schott, Travis Swanson
Summa Cum Laude & gold medal - Jesse Cole, Evan Telford, Galena Hansen
WRHS Latin teacher Jane Ulrich wrote, "This exam began with 6,000 students in 1976. This past year over 153,000 students took the exam.I am proud of their accomplishments."

Students Test Bridge Loads
Hailey Elementary students became bridge engineers the past few weeks. The facilitators of the project were Sharon Wood Wortman and Ed Wortman, authors of "Big and Awesome Bridges." The project concluded with load-testing the bridges that students built out of glue and popsicle sticks. Read more here.

Drama Students Host and Compete in One-Act Festival
The Wood River High School (WRHS) Drama Department hosted a One-Act Festival with drama departments from Blackfoot, Magic Valley HS and Shoshone. Read more here.

Music and Orchestra Students Compete at Districts and One Additional Student Qualifies for State Solo Competition
Orchestra and Choir students competed at the District IV Large Group Festival in Burley. And one student recently qualified for the State Vocal Solo Competition. Read more here.

Fourth Annual Student Juried Art Exhibit at the Community Campus
The Community Campus in Hailey is excited to announce the opening of the third annual student juried art exhibit. This year's art work was submitted by 6th - 12th grade students attending Wood River High School, Wood River Middle School, and The Community School. Read more here.

Students Celebrate Earth Day
Students at Hailey Elementary celebrated Earth Day by picking up litter around the school. According to a press release, "The Hailey PTA celebrated with contests, prizes, pictures and cupcakes afterward."

Nominate a Student for Do The Right Thing
Deadline: Friday, May 1
Do you see students modeling leadership, character, kindness and compassion? Do you see students doing the right thing, even when no one is looking? Nominate a student for Doing the Right Thing. The program is accepting nominations on the City of Hailey website. An easy and brief nomination form can be found on the main website for the City of Hailey. Any student from any school in Blaine County can be nominated.

Strategic Planning Continues
Strategic Planning continued last week with a meeting for Steering Committee and Subcommittee members. Subcommittees are working on objectives and action steps for each of the four goals approved by the Board of Trustees. The goals are:

All students will be Educated by 2020 to develop strong foundational and analytical problem solving skills to graduate ready for post-secondary success.
