Thank you for Taking the Second Strategic Plan Survey

Thank you to each of you who took the time to complete the Second Strategic Plan survey.  Over 330 people completed the survey.  We know it wasn't easy, but the results of an improved school district in five years will be worth it.  By taking the survey, attending meetings, and staying up to date on the Strategic Plan, you are part of our future success and the success of our students.  Thank you for ¨Being Part of Their Future.¨

Student Receives Scholarship

Carey School Senior Evelin Gomez (pictured above center receiving her scholarship) received a National Center for Women and Information Technology scholarship from Boise State University.  Gomez was one of three female students in Idaho to receive the scholarship.  Carey School counselor Kimberly Hochendonner and teacher Lindee Williams worked with Evelin to apply for the scholarship.  The $1,000 scholarship will help Evelin break new ground as the first in her family to attend college.

Evelin said, "Earning this scholarship is important to me because it will help me financially and that way I will be able to go to college."  Kimberly Hochendonner said, "We are all very proud of Evelin. She is a good student and certainly deserves this honor and award."

Parenting in the Digital Age

Common Sense Media's report Zero to Eight says that ¾ of all children ages 0-8 have access to a mobile device at home.  In their report Children, Adolescents and the Media, the American Academy of Pediatrics says that ⅔ of children and teenagers report that their parents have "no rules" about time spent with media. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that parents:

  • limit entertainment screen time to 2 hours

  • discourage media exposure for children under the age of 2

  • keep TV and media devices out of the bedroom

  • monitor children's Internet usage

  • coview media and use it to discuss values

  • enforce mealtime and bedtime curfews for media devices
