Superintendent's Letter

Dear Blaine County Community,

The ultimate goal and sacred trust of the Blaine County School District is to ensure all students graduate prepared for college and/or careers.

Blaine County School District is very fortunate to be part of a community that places a high value on excellence in education and has provided the resources to match their high expectations.  These include smaller classroom sizes of 20 or 25 students, (as called for by BCSD Policy 602.12), Dual Immersion, World Languages, and Special Education services such as the Autism Spectrum Disorder Program and Vocational Occupational Independent Career Education programs. Read more here.

Strategic Plan Meetings Continue

Staff, students, parents and community members met this week for the second series of Strategic Plan community meetings.  The meetings included vision and goal setting.  Thank you to each of you who took the time to attend. The meetings involved deep critical thinking, collaboration and communication.

Look for the paper survey at the front desk of all schools this week and in your child's backpack.  Look for the electronic survey next week. Paper surveys will be due back to schools by Wednesday, March 11.  The surveys will capture the ideas from the meetings and allow our community to continue the conversation as we plan for the next five years of Blaine County School District.

Students Interview Astronaut and Filmmaker

Hemingway Elementary students interviewed an astronaut, Barbara Morgan, along with Mona Rafatzadeh, who is the assistant director of the film Sepideh which was part of the  Family of Woman Film Festival. Tech teacher Scott Slonim said, "I chose eight girls for the interview because I want them to see examples of women that have made it to the highest levels."  The students interviewed the astronauts and filmmaker for a short video and for the HTV News.  Look for these next week.

Students Learn Job Skills

Wood River Works is a pre vocational training program through the Idaho Department of Labor.  VOICE I and II students participated in the program. Watch this video to learn more, and look for some familiar faces!  Find out how local businesses are investing in the youth of the community.

Students Demonstrate Leadership

Carey students were invited to a business meeting in Pocatello recently.  The students were asked to speak about the Leader in Me program and talk about how it impacts them both in and out of school.  Watch the video here.
