Student Wellness at Hemingway Elementary
Over 360 Hemingway Huskies recently completed the Presidential Youth Fitness Program measuring the 5 components of physical fitness (Muscular Endurance, Muscular Strength, Flexibility, Cardiovascular Fitness and Body Composition). According to Physical Education teacher Lars Hovey, "The testing has changed recently and is far less competitive than in the past. Students simply demonstrated the proper technique as outlined by Fitnessgram protocol. This will lay the foundation for more standards-based assessments in the middle and high schools." Students received certificates of accomplishment for their efforts. More information can be found in the Parent Resource Guide here.

How Will the Idaho Education Network Affect Blaine County School District?

The recent news about the State of Idaho's Idaho Education Network (IEN) raised awareness about the importance of bandwidth in public schools. Hundreds of teachers, staff and students use the internet simultaneously every day to access learning resources, work collaboratively, and communicate as part of being a 21st Century learner and educator.
The state's issue with IEN will not disrupt services to students and staff in the Blaine County School District. Technology Director Tim Rocco said, "We feel comfortable with our bandwidth. Teachers, staff and students will be able to continue to access the resources they need in our schools."
The Blaine County School District contracts with Syringa Networks for internet service. As part of ongoing efforts to maintain and improve technology services, the district technology department recently evaluated current use to ensure that there would not be any disruption to services, including services to students who are enrolled with Idaho Digital Learning Academy.
