BCSD Begins Search for New Principal of Wood River High School

The Blaine County School District will begin the search for a new principal of Wood River High School.

WRHS Principal Pete Jurovich submitted his resignation last week stating, "The district has provided me with exceptional opportunities to grow professionally.  The students and staff of the Blaine County School District have left an indelible mark on my heart.  I feel fortunate to have worked with so many amazing professionals and to have served so many amazing students."

Blaine County School District Superintendent Dr. GwenCarol Holmes said, "We are grateful to Mr. Jurovich for his service over the past five years at Wood River High School.  We appreciate having ample notice to begin the search for a new principal and we wish Mr. Jurovich the best of luck in his future endeavors."

Students Graduate with Life Skills

VOICE II celebrated the first graduates of the program on Friday, January 30th. VOICE II is Blaine County School District's age 18-21 transition program for students with special needs.

The graduation ceremony was held at the Sun Valley Auto Club.  Dacota Ratcliffe, Tadd Saldivia, and Thomas Moell were presented with special diplomas.

Retired teacher, Janet Dennis served as the keynote speaker.   She honored the graduates with special memories, positive affirmation, and well wishes. Several students and staff also recognized the graduates.  Blaine County School District would like to congratulate the students on their hard work, and wish them well for the independent  future ahead of them.  Thank you to Dave Stone for sharing the Sun Valley Auto Club for the special event.

Fun Fact: One Facebook Founder is a WRHS Graduate

You might have read this article about Andrew McCollum, but have you seen this photo from the WRHS football team?  Andrew MCollum graduated from WRHS in 2002.  He is pictured here with John Blackman, who was the art teacher and football coach at Wood River High School at the time.

McCollum was also a student of Hemingway Elementary Principal Don Haisley, who said, "Andy was a student of mine when he was in 6th grade. He is the one who taught me that just because an answer is not the "right" answer I was looking for, it does not mean that the answer is wrong. He would frequently come up with a different response than what I expected and when pressed to show me how he got the answer, he generally proved that he was right."

Thanks to all the teachers in Blaine County School District who encourage our future Andrew McCollum's!
