Dear Fellow Blaine County Residents,
Wow, what a great response we had to the Daniel Pink presentation. I am still hearing from folks about the conversations his ideas are sparking throughout the community about how we improve our practice as educators, parents, and community members to ensure our children are prepared for a future different from the world we matriculated to when we graduated high school.
Keep the conversation going! Read more here.

Look for Strategic Plan Survey
There are two ways to take the next Strategic Plan Survey:
1) Paper, 2) Electronic.
Paper surveys will available this week and due back by Wednesday, February 13. Look for the survey in your elementary child's backpack or pick up a survey at the front desk of your school.
Electronic surveys will be available next Monday, February 9. The electronic survey closes February 15. Look for the survey in your email or go to www.blaineschools.org and look for Your Voice.
There will be a short window of opportunity to take the survey, so don't delay your response.

Carey School art teacher Jennifer Mecham speaks with a student during student-led conferences at Carey last fall. Student-led conferences include formative and interim assessments.
|
Teachers and principals talk a lot about assessments, which are used to measure students' academic achievement and drive instruction. What are the different types of assessments?
Formative: An instructional process that provides real-time feedback to help adjust teaching and outcomes. Examples: non-graded pop-quiz, student reflection/discussion, diagrams, peer-review, teacher observation.
Interim: Periodic tests used to evaluate knowledge, skills, and standing at specific points in the curriculum. Examples: graded pop-quiz, mid-term exam, district benchmark exam.
Summative: Tests given at the end of instructional period/year to make final determinations about knowledge, skills, and standing. Examples: final exams, statewide accountability exams (ISAT 2.).*
