Your Questions about the Student Wellness Policy Answered

Is it true that cupcakes, cookies and brownies do not meet the nutrition standards in the Student Wellness Policy?
Cupcakes, cookies and brownies are discouraged. The nutrition standards in the Student Wellness Policy recommend that the first ingredient of a snack be Whole Grain, Fruit, Vegetable, Protein or Dairy.
Is it true that snacks brought to the classroom need to be store-bought?
There is nothing in the Student Wellness Policy that requires snacks to be store-bought. Due to food allergies among students, some teachers may ask that snacks are store-bought so that they can check the ingredients. Parents are encouraged to speak to their child's teacher and find out what meets the needs of their classroom. Teachers have always had the ability to make recommendations to parents based on the particular needs of all of the students in their classroom.

Students and Teachers Collaborate Through Chromebooks
Collaboration between students, between teachers, and between teachers and students is now even easier at Wood River High School. Wood River High School is making the move to a 1:1 Chromebook/BYOD(Bring Your Own Device) environment in the 2014-2015 school year.
As the parent or guardian of a student with a Chromebook, parents have the opportunity to play a significant role in supporting their student's digital life. Common Sense Media is a great resource for learning more on how to do just that without compromising parental values. Read a Family Tip Sheet on Digital Media here.
