After a BIG move from New Zealand, Ethan was SO excited to start school in "America!"
|
Newly enrolled students in Blaine County came from New Zealand, Mexico, Peru, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Arkansas, Washington, California, Florida, Utah, Maine, Nevada, Hawaii, and Kansas, as well as Boise, Twin Falls, Blackfoot, Hayden, Caldwell, and Dietrich, Idaho as well as local private schools. Welcome to the Blaine County School District!
Enrollment counts on the fourth day of school indicated an increase of 17 students district-wide from last year for a total enrollment of 3,356. Enrollment indicates how many students are enrolled in school. Attendance showed a decrease of 1 student from last year. Attendance is counted by hand each day for the first four days of school. The numbers are reported to the State Department of Education and impact the funding paid by the state for each student.

Updated Student Wellness Policy - It's About Balance!

The Blaine County School District Board of Trustees approved an updated Student Wellness Policy in April, 2014.
Here are some changes parents and staff should be aware of:
1) Parents are encouraged to speak to their child's teachers about limiting celebrations with food and/or including food that meets the district's nutrition standards. The main ingredient of food consumed for celebrations should be whole grain, fruit, vegetable, protein, or dairy.
2) Staff are encouraged to use non-food rewards or limit food as a reward. Food should have as the main ingredient whole grain, fruit, vegetable, protein or dairy. Staff are encouraged to collaboratively decide as a building when they will have celebrations that include food and communicate that with parents.
Students will see changes in the A La Carte items offered at the secondary schools. There will also be changes in the remaining vending machines at secondary schools. The district Wellness Committee will begin meeting in September to clarify district nutrition standards. Look for more information throughout the school year.
