Teachers Learn How the Arts and Idaho Core Standards Mesh

Teachers from Blaine County, Twin Falls and north Idaho learned how the arts and Idaho Core Standards blend together in a two-day hands-on workshop this week.  The class was taught by Peggy Wenner, Humanities and Fine Arts Coordinator from the Idaho State Department.

Wood River High School art teacher Betty Rodger-Ervin said, "It definitely got me in the mindset of how to include more reading and writing in the classroom...there are a lot of similarities with IB as well." Music, visual art, and theater art specialists participated in the class, as well as art educators from the Sun Valley Center for the Arts and Footlight Dance.

Interim Superintendent John Blackman Attends State School Safety Conference

More than 400 educators and community stakeholders from across Idaho were in Sun Valley last week to discuss school safety, crisis response, suicide prevention and other critical issues related to student safety and security. Interim Superintendent John Blackman attended the conference along with several other staff members from Blaine County School District.

It's all part of the State Department of Education's annual Idaho Prevention and Support Conference. This year, the conference focused on innovation, collective problem-solving, best practices and motivation to most effectively address youth risk behaviors, foster optimal health and realize academic success for Idaho students.
