The public is invited to hear from the final two candidates for the Superintendent position of the Blaine County School District on Tuesday, April 22 at 6:00 p.m. at the Distance Learning Lab at Wood River High School. Wood River High School is located at 1250 Fox Acres Road, Hailey, ID. This is a moderated event with a specific format.

Carey Science Class Goes Live with Hands-On Experiments
 Over 2,500 students from Alaska, Washington D.C., Florida, Texas, California and Ireland watched a live stream teaching event from Lane Durtschi's 8th grade Earth Science class.
Meteorology was brought to life with an engaging science lesson on extreme weather conditions through Discovery Ed. Discovery Ed is a global leader in standards-based digital content. Carey School students currently use both Discovery Education Science Techbook and Discovery Education Streaming Plus, which is a digital library.

Teachers Learn How the Arts and Idaho Core Standards Mesh
Teachers from Blaine County, Twin Falls and north Idaho learned how the arts and Idaho Core Standards blend together in a two-day hands-on workshop this week. The class was taught by Peggy Wenner, Humanities and Fine Arts Coordinator from the Idaho State Department.
Wood River High School art teacher Betty Rodger-Ervin said, "It definitely got me in the mindset of how to include more reading and writing in the classroom...there are a lot of similarities with IB as well." Music, visual art, and theater art specialists participated in the class, as well as art educators from the Sun Valley Center for the Arts and Footlight Dance.

Alturas, Hailey and Bellevue Elementary Hold Open Houses

The transition to the magnet school will bring changes next year for many elementary students in the South Valley. Dual Immersion students K-5 will attend Alturas Elementary and non-Dual Immersion students K-5 will attend Bellevue and Hailey Elementary. Each of the three schools have scheduled open houses for all of the current and new students. Join us to meet your new principal, your new teachers and your new classmates.

Interim Superintendent John Blackman Attends State School Safety Conference
More than 400 educators and community stakeholders from across Idaho were in Sun Valley last week to discuss school safety, crisis response, suicide prevention and other critical issues related to student safety and security. Interim Superintendent John Blackman attended the conference along with several other staff members from Blaine County School District.
It's all part of the State Department of Education's annual Idaho Prevention and Support Conference. This year, the conference focused on innovation, collective problem-solving, best practices and motivation to most effectively address youth risk behaviors, foster optimal health and realize academic success for Idaho students.
