White House Honors Teacher
During Jorge Pulleiro's tenure as a middle school teacher, he has received several prestigious awards, including the Loretta Wollet Award for outstanding teaching at the K-12 level, the Toyota International Education Award and the Fulbright Classroom Teacher Exchange award to Universidad Popular de la Chontalpa, Tabasco, Mexico. Now he is being recognized by the White House in their Troops to Teachers program. Read more here.

Realizing the American Dream Graduation Ceremony

A family engagement program called Realizing the American Dream will conclude on Thursday, March 20 with a graduation ceremony for 36 parents who attended the 10-week program. Conducted entirely in Spanish, the program taught parents how to help their children with schoolwork at home, motivate their children, build their child's reading skills, work as partners with teachers, the principal and other staff, make a plan to help their child succeed academically and graduate from high school ready to go to college.
The program was coordinated and taught by the Blaine County School District Latino Outreach Coordinator, Gloria Girlado-Hurst.
Hailey Mayor Fritz Haemmerle will be the guest speaker.

Give Your School A Letter Grade
Survey closes Friday, March 21. Join over 300 parents who already gave feedback to their school. A site-level Parent Climate Survey will close on Friday, March 21. The survey addresses issues such as academic preparation, student support, parent engagement, school operations and accessibility of school leaders, among other topics. "We need everyone to participate and join this conversation," said Interim Superintendent John Blackman. "This is an effective way for everyone to make their voice heard as we work collaboratively to improve our school system." Take the survey here.

Mini Grants for Teachers
Grant Deadline: Tuesday, April 15
Blaine County Education Foundation is inviting teachers to apply for mini grants of up to $500.00 to address classroom and school needs identified by teachers and administrators. Teachers and administrators can also work collaboratively to combine amounts for larger requests. Grant requests must fit with the mission of the Blaine County Education Foundation and the Blaine County School District Strategic Plan.
The grant application and an outline of specific grant requirements can be downloaded from the BCEF website.

Budget Presentation: Come Learn About School Budgets
The Blaine County School District Board of Trustees is holding a series of meetings focused on the upcoming budget for the 2014-2015 fiscal year.
The public is invited and has the opportunity to ask questions during the meeting. The first meeting covered proposed new staffing requests. The second meeting explained proposed department budgets.
The next meeting is Thursday, March 20 from 4:00-5:30 p.m. to look at school and athletic budgets. Business Manager Mike Chatterton (pictured above) will give the presentation. To review the presentations, go here.
