Wood River High School students in 9th grade Physical Science designed and built musical wind chimes using their knowledge of sound waves. The multi-week project included raising awareness of hearing-related issues in the community, collaborating with Wow-students to support a sensory trail station at Swiftsure Ranch, and displaying the wind chimes.
"This is a great example of the International Baccalaureate program, approaching one subject from many perspectives, and encouraging intellectual curiosity and community service," said Dan VandenHeuvel, a science teacher at Wood River High School.

Full Day Kindergarten
During the 2008 Strategic Planning process the community placed full day Kindergarten as a priority. In the fall of 2009, the district began offering full day Kindergarten. Now full day Kindergarten is at every elementary school in the district.
Kindergarten is a crucial year in a child's educational journey.Kindergarteners have different needs than preschoolers, but Kindergarten is not "first grade made a bit easier." Kindergarteners need an educational approach that is developmentally appropriate. They need time to learn from play, choices in their daily routine, and teachers who are responsive to their individual needs. There is a reason Robert Fulghum's book All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten was a best seller. Read more for a few curricular highlights.
