Cards for Bowe Bergdahl
 Carey School students made cards for the White House in honor of Bowe Bergdahl. Almost 250 cards will be mailed from Carey students in grades K-12. The goal of the project is to send one million cards to the White House in honor of Bowe Bergdahl.

Idaho Core Survey Results: Majority of Blaine County Parents Who Took Survey Know About Idaho Core Standards Over 400 parents responded to the Idaho Core Standards survey in October, representing the best response rate (16.8%) of any survey sent by the district to date. Thank you to each of you who responded!
68% of parents who responded said they have heard of the Idaho Core Standards. Of those who heard of the Idaho Core Standards, 38% said they were either moderately or extremely familiar with the Idaho Core Standards. We have always known that we have involved and informed parents, and this survey makes it very clear. Read more here.

Model United Nations Ranked Nationally
 The Wood River High School Model United Nations Club attended the Teton County Model United Nations Conference at Jackson Hole High School. Adviser Joel Zellers (with chaperons John Galgano and Amy McGraw) took 13 students to participate in the conference representing the United States, Germany, Bolivia and Sudan. The 13 WRHS students all performed well at the Teton County Model United Nations conference of 240 students from Idaho and Wyoming. They researched their countries and the issues, prepared their position papers, met in sessions for two days, and voted at the general assembly on the last afternoon. Language Arts Curriculum Materials Pilot
Teachers are piloting new English Language Arts curriculum materials between now and February. Participating teachers will pilot one unit from two different sets of instructional materials for language arts between the months of November and February. Read more here.

Turkey Shoot Chess Tournament
The Blaine County School District Chess Club held their annual Turkey Shoot Tournament before Thanksgiving. Chess helps develop memory, spatial relationships, deductive logic, concentration, stamina, perserverance, and flexibility, among other critical thinking skills. The club meets every Thursday at the Community Campus after school until 5:30. All ages and abilities are welcome.
