Teachers Start Summer Vacation with Common Core and Math Classes
Many teachers began their summer vacation by attending classes last week. The Common Core Boot Camp is a two-day class designed to give teachers an introduction to the new state standards. For more about past Common Core Boot Camps, read this article by Clark Corbin of Idaho Ed News.
Other teachers attended a math class through the Idaho Math Initiative. According to the Idaho State Department of Education, "The MTI course is a three-credit course that gives Idaho teachers and administrators the best practices, content knowledge, and teaching strategies they need to help all students succeed in math." College Scholarships Help Local Students
The Blaine County School District proudly serves students with diverse abilities, socioeconomic backgrounds and interests. Over 43% of our students receive free and reduced cost lunches; scholarships, both merit-based and need-based, are essential for students to go on to college.
Thank you to each and every one of you who contributed to a scholarship fund this year and helped a deserving Blaine County student go on to college.

College Tuition Increases 300% Since 1990
According to Barron's Magazine, "College tuition, up 300% since 1990, has outstripped inflation by a factor of four. The run-up in health-care costs looks tame by comparison. As tuition has soared-it now averages $28,500 a year, including fees, at private schools-student-loan debt has exploded."

Board of Trustees Approve Budget
The Board of Trustees unanimously approved the FY2014 budget. Four members of the public made comments at the meeting, six members of the public attended. When approving the budget, Board members spoke about the value of small class sizes, highly qualified staff, and programs and offerings for the Whole Child, including music, art, technology, and physical education.
The Board also spoke about how the budget supports the Strategic Plan and Board goals, including goals like increasing Advanced Placement classes.
