Inspiring Students and Teachers Represent Hundreds More: Meet Some of Our Graduates

Special Education Department Noted for Innovative Work

The Blaine County School District Student Services Department, responsible for Special Education, was selected as the one district in the state to work with the Idaho State Department of Education and the National Secondary Transition Technical Assistance Center to improve secondary education and transition services to better prepare students with disabilities for college and the workforce.

 

BCSD was identified as a result of the new and innovative work in the area of secondary transition, strong administrative support and a strong readiness to benefit from additional technical assistance.

In the 2012 Idaho Standard Achievement Tests, BCSD Special Education students scored 17% higher than their peers across the state of Idaho on the Idaho Standards Achievement Test, ranking BCSD Special Education students 1st in the state. 

  

Wildlife Biology Students Present Research to Local Conservation Organizations

The lessons learned last week by Wood River High School students in a Wildlife Biology class extended beyond the doors of the classroom. Junior and senior students from Wood River High School presented their research to staff members from the U.S. Forrest Service, The Nature Conservancy and the Wood River Land Trust. The research was the result of a semester long class with WRHS biology teacher Larry Barnes. Students worked in teams to develop a hypothesis, which they tested at various sites in Blaine County - Silver Creek Preserve, Draper Preserve, and others.

Congratulations to Kathy Baker, Newly Elected Board Trustee

Kathy Baker will serve a four year term beginning July, 2013. The final vote count was Baker 248 and incumbent Board Chair Steve Guthrie 171. Once elected to the Board, Trustees represent all stakeholders in Blaine County.  For information on Board meetings, Board goals, Board ethics, Board minutes and webcasts of the Board meetings, click here. Board Trustees are volunteers.  In 2012, the Board held 39 meetings.  To date the Board held 22 meetings in 2013. Thank you to all of our Board members for their service to the community. And congratulations to Kathy Baker, newly elected Board Trustee.
