Carey and Wood River High School Named Two of America's Best High Schools by Newsweek

Newsweek/The Daily Beast

named Carey High School and Wood River High School as two of the best high schools in the nation for 2013. Carey High School is ranked #1,001 and Wood River High School is ranked #865 out of the top 2,000 high schools in the nation recognized by Newsweek. There are approximately 25,000 public high schools in the nation.

Superintendent Dr. Lonnie Barber said, "We are proud of our schools. We have great teachers we have great students and families, and we are excited to be part of the Newsweek list of best high schools."

According to the Newsweek/Daily Beast editors, "There are countless ways to analyze high schools. For the last two years, Newsweek and The Daily Beast have considered the nation's high schools with a simple conceit: to find the ones that best prepare students for college. Each year we have tweaked our methodology slightly, but stayed true to factors that have been proven to be the best indicators of college readiness: graduation rates, participation in college-level classes via Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) programs, and acceptance into a two- or four-year college program."

Congratulations to the staff and students at Carey High School and Wood River High School for this recognition by Newsweek.
